Last night Obama's pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright sat down for an interview on the PBS Bill Moyers Journal television show. It was a pretty generically bland interview, lacking detailed explanations and all of the charisma, as noted in THOSE sound bytes we've been bombarded with, and I am not certain whether the timing was good in doing this interview.
At this point, anything he says is sure to be scrutinized, from "he didn't say this" to "he didn't say that" or "why didn't he act like he did on the videos." So, I don't know what to make of the video. However, I read two good blog posts relating to this inteview, and it's not the articles which make for the most interesting reads, it's the commentary in comments parts.
I have been thinking lately, and some random thoughts have crossed my mind. Here is one: The American public and media have been on this trend to reward bad behavior. Many people have become more famous, richer, and revered for "bad behavior." How is this guy any different for those who consider him to be a bad person? Is a book deal soon to come?
Read John Ridley's post on Huffington Post, which was published before the airing of the show: The Undeniable Virtue of Jeremiah Wright's Pro-Blackness (and the Problem with Pro-Whiteness)
Read Bill Moyer's blog entry which was posted after the interview: The Controversy Over Wright
If you missed the show, you can watch it or read the transcript here.
Rev. Kirbyjon Caldwell, pastor of Houston's Windsor Village United Methodist Church does Q & A this weekend for The Dallas Morning News on the black church and white America. The question is below. Follow the link to get his response. Do you agree with him?
"What does white America need to know about the black church? The style and content of preaching differs from what many mainstream white Christians are used to in their churches." READ MORE...

Jasmyne Cannick & “N’Digo” Publisher Hermene Hartman speak out on the O’Reilly factor regarding Barack Obama’s pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright and racial speeches he has made in the past. Conservative media has been fanning the flames to keep this story alive, and it appears they may have been successful.
This week Obama has been releasing statements on the issue, however, Conservatives, Republicans, and increasingly more Liberals are alleging that his responses are too tepid. Here in Massachusetts, there has been wall-to-wall coverage all week with excerpts of his pastor’s comments airing throughout talk radio programs. So I know this is not unique to one of the most liberal states in the country. His pastor has resigned from his campaign committee. Do you think this issue will be the downfall of Obama’s bid for presidency? Is it downhill from now on for Obama? Surprisingly, Hill’s camp has had very little to say on the topic. I wonder whyyyyyy? Hmmm…
Question: If you had planned on voting for him, and he lost the nomination due to this pastor issue, will you still vote? If you will and you are a Democrat, will you switch and vote Republican or for Ralph Nader and NOT Hillary Clinton?

In the beginning, he is making fun of speaking in tongues. The comment responses are mixed on YouTube, and some of the readers take offense to it. Is it okay for Christian comedians to make fun of Christianity?
We have heard of drive-in movies. Now here is an interesting concept, and apparently it's not new and Daytona Beach Drive-In Christian Church out of Florida, has been worshipping outdoors since 1953. The last time I was in Daytona Beach, I had not heard of this church. Things must get pretty creative when it's time to pass the collection plate around. And this eliminates the excuse for those who say they hardly attend, because they can't find a parking space or can't find anything to wear. All you need is gas money, and if you have a car load you can split the cost.

According to Washington Blade, a major gay choir scandal has blown up at Washington D.C. 7,000 member Greater Mt Calvary Holy Church. Apparently, a whistleblower sent an exposé letter to the pastor and congregation, allegedly outing more than 100 homosexual and lesbian members in the choir and music department. The church is under the leadership of Pastors Alfred and Susie Owens. I know this is something they will overcome and work out.
According to Gay Christian Movement Watch (www.gcmwatch.org):
“The three emails ripped apart 6 of the 8 choral groups, their leaders, and specifically homosexual men in the choirs. Additionally, the emails detailed names and the nefarious activities of male and female homosexuals within music departments, greeters and trustee board. According to a gay member of the church, “Bishop Owens met with all choir members for thirty minutes and offered to help anybody who wanted to change from being gay. He said the bible says that wheat and tares grow together but there are too many tares and when the tares out number the wheat I got to do something.” Read 3 e-mails

Hey folks, there is a big story developing over at the blog What About Our Daughters? which relates to BET (Black Entertainment Television) and a particular group of black clergy in this country, with a questionable issue of them potentially selling out black folks for the almighty dollar.
Here is an excerpt of the post:
"I am here to express my shock and dismay at the utter contempt that BET has shown the parishioners of the black church. For more than a decade, BET has waged open, blatant war against everything that the church believes in, and arrogantly ignored thousands upon thousands of letters, phone calls, and petitions by Christians of all faiths who hoped to appeal to the collective conscience of its leadership.
BET is the longest standing purveyor of black pornographic lyrics, the corporate pimp of lascivious imagery, and has proven time and time again that it is hell bent on polluting the collective atmosphere with degrading and stereotypical images of black women and youth." READ MORE...
You may want to preface this article by first reading What would Jesus do...about BET?

Questions:
What do you think about BET? Do you think it has done much harm to the black community? If you don't see any harm in a network like BET, why not? If you don't have a problem with BET, might your age be a factor? Do you think they are trying to change programming for the better? Is the damage already done and irreplaceable? Any opinions on founder Bob Johnson in relation to BET? Any opinions on Debra Lee, current BET president and her role? What's on your mind?
