1dhq.jpgLast year, I posted on the story about the white Canadian dancer, MoMo who won the 2007 Jamaican Dancehall Queen contest. When she went to take her victory skip-to-mah-loo dance down the runway, bottles were thrown at her, and everyone ran for cover, but there was no posted video footage back then. MoMo is still dancing, so I guess that incident didn't stop her determination. I meant to post this early, but forgot about it. Without further adieu, here is the video clip. I didn't know YouTube had a video awards ceremony. Who could forget the Chocolate Rain viral video by 25 year old Tay Zonday? Zonday is one of 12 to win the YouTube Video Awards and won in the Music category. The program is in its second year. His video Chocolate Rain had 15,768,410 views. WATCH VIDEO

Tay says in an AP interview:

It's the new Emmys...It's the next Oscars. The next People's Choice Awards. It'll be interesting to see what happens five years, 10 years (from now)...A lot of people see political commentary in (the song)...A lot of people find humor in it. A lot of people, they say their 2-year-olds can't stop repeating it at bedtime, so lots of people get different things out of the song. And I think the greatest consequence and the greatest mileage it can have is to get people asking questions."

He offered advice on how to have a successful YouTube video: "Just be very authentic and put yourself out there," he said in his mellifluous voice. "You'll never know what will happen." READ MORE...

ALL Hail the Queen

1queenlatifah.jpgQueen Latifah was in Boston this weekend for a charity event to benefit the Roxbury Comprehensive Community Health Center, which raised more than $350,000. The function was held at the Four Seasons Hotel and she sang a set of jazz, blues, funk, and some of the 90s hits. Imagine that. The crowd rocking through some of her old rap tunes. The gala honored the governor's wife Diane Patrick and the mayor's wife, Angela Menino. Latifah addressed Diane Patrick as "cousin" while on stage, and Patrick was quoted as replying back, "I wish I were your cousin." People partied til the wee hours for a good cause.

Herbie Hancock fresh off of his Grammy album of the year win/surprise for his 2007 CD, "River: The Joni Letters," was recently named Artist of the Year by the Harvard Foundation. He is photo'd dancing with a member of a Harvard student dance troupe.

Boston Globe Hancock quote:
"I come from a time when 'booty' meant pirate's treasure," he said after one particularly robust dance routine. "You really know how to shake your pirate's treasure."

August Rush "Raise It Up" Clip

Performed last night at the Oscars, and this song sounded so sweet. Jamia Nash's voice continues to mature. I liked all of the live performances. Music and Lyric by Jamal Joseph, Charles Mack and Tevin Thomas. "Raise it Up" was nominated for an Oscar for original song, but was beaten out by "Falling Slowly."
