The Miss Universe 2009 pageant live from Bahamas tonight
The pageant airs of NBC and I used to love watching the pageants growing up. Now that I am on hiatus for a few weeks (I'M FREEEEEEEEE...lol) I had some time to check out the lengthy preliminary show. Something which was previously not available to the public unless you were present at the event. The show is over 141 minutes long.
The women really are beautiful this year. I have not watched a show in over 14 years and I was on YouTube watching their interviews and stumbled across Carolyn Yapp's (Miss Jamaica) interview. Miss Yapp describes her background as "Indi-black-anese." She is definitely "out of many, one" as the country motto expresses. I ran across some unexpected dialogue in the comments section. The comments are from some users that complain the country rarely puts forth women that really represent Jamaican women. Pretty interesting back and forth discussion.
chocolatebooty81: "OK yes she is Jamaican that is not my argument i have been to Jamaica and i know that Jamaica has diversity I think that it's very unfair when year after year you see mixed or indian girls always being picked to represent Jamaica in the Miss Universe pageant i think they should choose brown skin and or dark chocolate girls to represent sometimes most Jamaican women don't even look like this lady."
deenybrown: "hi, cant say i agree with u. How do u know most jcan girls dont look that way? That is not true. How about saying the ones u have met dont loo that way. ITs the person with the best talent etc. that we choose to represent us that enters for that yr. what is wrong with that? She is jamaican...black,brown,pink purple..whatever...she is Jamaican"
