More info on the Amber Alert:
"Donnerson's grandson, 7-year-old Julian King, is missing -- taken from the house in the Englewood neighborhood, Chicago police said. He was in a white 1994 Chevrolet Suburban SUV with Illinois license plate X584859, police said.
Police identified a suspect in the double murder -- William Balfour -- who might be with the child. Balfour is "considered armed and dangerous,'' according to a police alert issued Friday evening. Hello there!
This is is such a sad story...I feel so deeply for what Jennifer and the other family members must be going through.
I hope it is a wake up call for black people to stop minimizing mental illness among their relatives... saying "he's tripping" and "she's tripping" and not taking mental illness SERIOUSLY because a mentally ill person who does not get treatment can be a viable threat to everyone's well-being.
Our people will cry and wail at the funerals when these tragedies happen but WHO in the family ever called the behavior what it was:
MENTAL ILLNESS.
Let's allow this tragedy to open the conversation on the denial that permeates in black communities and black families about refusing to acknowledge and call OUT mental and emotional illness in our own family units.
I will pray for the comfort and healing of the family.
Let this be a lesson for all.
Peace, blessings and DUNAMIS!
Lisa
BlackWomenBlowTheTrumpet.blogspot.com, I don't know whether it is premature to blame it on mental illness, and I have not read anything new as of yesterday. But I just think some people are bad seeds. Putting Jennifer's family tragedy situation aside, I think some either learn badness from their environment or it is just innately built into their character, not necessarily being mental illness.
