Serena is #1 in the world again

If you stayed up late last night to watch Serena play Serbian tennis star Jelena Jankovic in the U.S Open you already know Serena Williams beat her in two sets to capture her 9th Grand Slam title. Serena ended the matches jumping for joy like some of us did when we were a kid and got everything you wanted for Christmas or a birthday. It was touching to watch her take back her crown.

Now Jelena...lol, took over the microphone AFTER she was already addressed and acknowledged during the awards ceremony, and couldn't see to stopping talking, hogging the mic, putting heavy grip over the announcer's hand when it was clear they had moved on to and addressed Serena. For me, it was slightly annoying and mildly comical, but I think nerves got the best of her, and she was still in denial that match was over. As she stated, she wanted to continue to play.

Jankovic was like that pesky fly you try to swat at a picnic that would never go away. She fought hard, but Serena was the better player last night. I think she really was taking away from Serena's moment, when she starting ranting about "how much money do I get?" I don't know whether she was trying to be funny, or just could not restrain herself from expressing the frustration she felt. I have never witnessed this level of rudeness at a tropy ceremony. Speaking of money Serena picked up $1.5 million dollars for her first place prize and that puts her at #3 on the all time money list for women's professional tennis players.
