Alvin Ailey dancer says Israeli airport security made him bust a move before letting him in the country
Abdur-Rahim Jackson, an Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater performer said he was singled out at the Isreali airport because of his Muslim name. I don't really know why this is news, because, in this day and age who could not see this incident as a possibility of occurrence? So, the security put in a request for the running man dance...j/k...lol. They asked him to perform any dance move. He did and eventually was granted entry into the country.
Jackson is not a Muslim, but his father was a convert and gave him that name. According to news reports, Jackson does consider himself religious and is engaged to a female dancer in the troupe who is Jewish and has family in Israel. That's interesting, because it is often assumed that the majority of male professional dancers are gay.
