MaryAnn Reid, founder of the "Marry Your Baby Daddy Day™" event appeared on the CNN's Black in America series. She discussed why she created this event and the controversy behind the name. I would like to see a "Marry Your Future Baby's Father Day" also, celebrating those who choose to wait.

Either way, I think the concept is thoughtful and a good one. I have overcome the cringe factor when I hear that phrase "baby daddy" or "baby mama," in addition, this event is done for a good cause and helps to solidfy family units. Watch her CNN interview with Soledad O'Brien.

The last event held in Brooklyn, NY last September is photo'd above, and I another ceremony is probably around the corner. It would be nice to see some video footage. If you visit her blog, http://maryannreid.blogspot.com/, she has a post on one of the brides from the past event and this bride was featured in July's issue of Essence.
