10 struck by lightning while under a TREE

Yesterday, in New England, the lightning and thunder stormed through the area, and in Dorchester, a soccer game was interrupted by the rain. Ten males, ages ranging from a 12 year old to men in their forties took refuge under a tree. Lightning struck and all of them fell to the ground, stricken by a bolt. Four of the victims were left in critical condition, and I do not know how many suffered electrical burns, but the news reported two suffered heart attacks. This was truly a miracle that no one had died.

I thought it was universal knowledge, I mean, I learned from a very young age in elementary school—never stand under tree when it is lightning outside. The news stated many of the people who attended the game or participated in the match were from South American or Latin American countries. Avoid high ground
Avoid contact with metal objects
Don’t stand under trees
Don’t crowd with other people, keep a distance of at least 15 feet
