'Lost' actor killed off the show questions the race factor

Although I have never watched one episode of the tv show “Lost,” Harold Perrineau whom I loved in the “Best Man” movie was recently interviewed and expressed some disappointment in the fact that his character, Michael Dawson was killed off in the ABC season finale of the drama, and addressed the question of whether race was a factor.
He was particularly irritated by the fact that the death of his character left his onscreen son fatherless, as if we as blacks need another prominent portrayal of an absentee father.
Here is what he had to say TV Guide: “Listen, if I’m being really candid, there are all these questions about how they respond to black people on the show. Sayid gets to meet Nadia again, and Desmond and Penny hook up again, but a little black boy and his father hooking up, that wasn’t interesting?”
He was brought back on the show only to be killed off and here are his thoughts:
“I had no idea,” he said. “It’s like, ‘What the hell?’ I felt like, ‘Was that it? I came back for that?’ ”
He later clarified (backpeddling?) some of his position with Entertainment Weekly: “I should probably think before I say things. I should especially think before I say anything racial, because I recognize that when you make a racial comment it polarizes people.” READ MORE...

Yeah Harold. There is this powerful thing call blacklisting. Quite sure you’ve heard of that one. Your point about the fatherless kid image is a valid one. Again, I have never seen the show, so I cannot comment on his performance, and I know getting cut isn't always about race. Perhaps, another reader has seen the show and can shed some light on his character and performance.

Is Harold for real? What an inane thing to say. Lost is a virtual graveyard of main and minor characters being killed off. Incessantly. They killed off Dominic Monahan's charater. Was that against hobbits, perhaps? I mean seriously. White, Asian, male, female, Latina, rich, poor, children, mothers, fathers, step siblings, Lost kills them all with equal abandon. Michael wasn't the only major character who appeared to meet their doom on the finale. And I personally was not sure we had seen the last of Michael but after these remarks, I'm thinking maybe the producers will make sure it is. The only thing that seems actor related on Lost that has led to a character's death has been getting a DUI. Now THAT, not race, is the kiss of death for the cast of Lost:)
Hey Kat!
Thanks for the analysis. The only time that show was brought to my attention was with the drink/drive arrests of members of its cast. So thanks again.
