Blacks don't swim
I know that's a stereotype, but summer and vacations are right around the corner for many of us, and I ran into this article addressing black folks and swimming. Last year I created a post on black people learning to swim. This article was interesting, in a sense that it revealed some stereotypes about black people and swimming. Here is an unproven stereotype in the article: "blacks couldn't swim because of a "lack of buoyancy."
The CDC statistics on drownings are still alarming: "blacks are more likely to drown - three times more so for children between the ages of 5 and 14 - than whites" READ MORE...
Bottom line: Learn to swim or invest in a good life preserver/jacket...both are invaluable. No one is too old or too young to wear one.
