Update on Citoya from Dunbar Village
Recently, I posted a request for those who could to help a young woman and her child down in South Florida, who is living in horrendous conditions in a public housing complex. She was very vocal about the living conditions, sort of a lone soldier in the fight, putting herself at risk for retaliation. Rev. Al Sharpton promised to come visit for a focus group meeting and to stay overnight to witness the living situation. Rev. Al was a No-Show. Well, you must read about the results of that fundraiser and all of the good that came out of it. I am overwhelmed with hearing some good news, for a change.
This is a TRUE testament, living example to the fact that we don't always need an "Al Sharpton" or any other national "leader" to organize and solve our problems. One person, Shecodes over at BlackWomenVote.Blogspot.com took the initiative to reach out and help by appealing to her audience to help this young lady. So far, $2,000 has been raised in about 2 weeks, she's moving, and even Habitat for Humanity has expressed interest in building a home for the young lady. She thanks those who have helped through prayers, financially, sending resource information, emailing encouraging words, or any other way you offered support. My eyes are welled up with tears this morning. Here is the update: Blog Post: Update on Citoya from Dunbar Village
