This is old news, but I found this story while on break. The Rochester city school district has okayed a policy, which allows for students and teachers to communicate in “Ebonics” or Black English Vernacular. The school district released this information in its Diversity Dialogue Newsletter (view image).

The message this sends: The school board has no expectations of black students. It tells the students they are not smart enough, so we will dumb down the language for you.

What about the future, when these students try to get a job or compete on standardized exams? The Queens English is not required, but we need to know and be conversant in Standard English. Do you think these kids have a chance at becoming a CEO of a Fortune 500, 1000 or any company?

I grew up in Rochester, NY and shame, shame, shame. The parents and community members should NOT tolerate this. They need to dig a deep grave and bury this idea, and throw in the “word” Ebonics before they cover the hole.

Here is the story link: Ebonics is Okay
