I'd love to see this, I've never seen an authentic African company perform in person. I'm glad to know about it though, Thanx!
Yes, this seems like a great date or family show.
Found this site/blog by chance when I was looking up African Footprint. Not sure how this works ... but here goes.
I just saw African Footprint tonight and wanted to let you know that it is a MUST SEE. It was absolutely spectacular. I saw "Umoja", which was also wonderful but African Footprint was better. The singing and dancing was amazing but more importantly how wonderfully it portrayed the history/changes/struggles of South Africa. The words used in the songs are great and moving at times. You have to go and see it.
I am an Afro Cuban/Nigerian highpriest and I want to recommend the Show African Footprints to all of those folks that believe in the purity of the African spirit in the Diaspora, BLACK, WHITE OR MARTIANS......I saw the show that was the only one held in the South of the United States. I live in Miami, and prior that in the Washington DC metropolitan area. If I had been in another place but those that the tour will stop I would take the opportunity for vacations and try to book a trip wherever they will be showing. It is the best money you will have spent in a long time and at the sametime will learn to appreciate culture and art. Something our ancestors left for all those who want to accept and experience true LOVE.........
All my heart and go to the 30 member troup for their 3500 show. The Broward center for the Performing arts was soldout and a success.
IBORU IBOYA IBOSISE...
ARIKU BABA WA-O!
BABA GAGBEMI
Hopefully demand will be high and they will return for an extended tour in more locations.

"African Footprints" is okay but i think UMOJA shows more of the culture of Africa, I am African myself and i thought this "African Footprints" was too watered down and a lot of people have said the same thing and, they are NOT Africans.....don't wrong me, there was nice dancing and all BUT i think it is not a "WOW" show...I would not recommend it if i wanted someone to know about "African Culture" and Mark African Footprints does not portray the "history/changes/struggles" like UMOJA does!!!!!, UMOJA is by far WAY better than "African Footprints".. with the music alone...u just feel it- the culture, how they do things AUTHENTIC every time i see it i cry and i am sooo proud of where i come from and with "African Footprints" watered down nonsense its all just Americanized. its like just another show..
Salome,
So you are saying the AF dancers are not from Africa? When you say watered down, do you mean they are not doing traditional African dances which storytell of "history/changes/struggles"?
Then what kind of dancing are they doing? Do you think it is choreographed by non-Africans? Just curious.
"lot of people have said the same thing"
Are these people African?
Hello Richard,
My name is Robert Fox. I live in Cambridge Ontario Canada. I am a retired school teacher. A group of youth called, "The Soweto Marimba Kidz", from Dobsonville Soweto South Africa, came to my town for two weeks in May 2006. They performed at many community events and visited over 11 highschools. Their facilitator lives in Johannesburg S. A. His name is Michael Rea. He was born and raised in my Canadian town but now lives and works in Jo-burg. He saw the Soweto Marimba Kidz at the market in S.A. in 2006 and decided to bring them to Canada to spread their message of hope to us. He does a wonderful job with them and as a result of their 2006 tour, several girls in the troupe are receiving their post secondary education for free. Many other significant changes have taken place in the lives of the people in our community as a result of their visit. They do a HIV/AIDS awareness "edu-tainment" concert. Wow!
They just returned May 29, 2008 to Cambridge Ontario Canada again for a second visit. They will be here for two and a half weeks until June 17. Again, my wife and I and many others are assisting them with their visit.
I want to impress upon you how wonderful their performance skills are.
My wife and I watched your Canadian production of "AFrican FOotprints" in Toronto Canada in February of this year. It was superb! But so are the Soweto Marimba Kidz in a different way.
I would like to know if you would be willing to give the entire troupe and opportunity to audition for your troupe called "African Footprints"!!
They will be back home to Africa by June 18.
You can contact them through contacting Michael Rea at ..... reamichaelh@yahoo.ca
(He is the Canadian facilitator who has brought them to Canada twice now.) He is doing this for them because he is a kind man but the Soweto Kidz deserve more because of their dedication and perserverence.)
I know that "African Footprint" will be presented in Jo-burg at the Casino for one month beginning July 9. Erin, your Canadian organized told me to get in touch with you.
If this message has reached the wrong person, please write back to me with the correct connections!
The Soweto Marimba Kidz are now called, "Soweto Marimba Youth League". They have a website .... www.smyle.co.za
Even if the dancers were given an opportunity to audition or even one of them, it would be wonderful of you.
I have included all of Michael Rea's contact information.
Please let me know what you can do to help the Kidz and please contact Michael Rea.
Thanks,
I will wait a reply.
Robert Fox
P.S. If you added the entire group to your show, it would be twice as good.
