Room and board at Harvard University has climbed to $45,620, and rich families who had had to depend on loans, grants, and personal savings will get a break. Harvard will pitch in more towards tuition, room, and board. They can afford to, their endowment fund of almost $35 billion, and this will help families who really need help, but can never quite qualify for this or that type of financial assistance.

It is laughable that the government considers anyone making >$100k upper class or $50k middle class, when they tax that income to death. Therefore, if you or your child thought Harvard was out of reach financially, it is time to reconsider. Parents between $60k and $120k will need to contribute 10 percent of their income. Their web address is www.harvard.edu.

Perhaps other colleges and universities will follow suite, and help some of middle class individuals and families.
