Kid Sings Rick James' "Mary Jane"

| | Comments (0)

When I was a kid, Rick James was a popular icon or should I say a funk icon, and his music blew up our airwaves. Even then I did not know what Mary Jane was, and today, it still is symbolic for marijuana. I must admit I liked the song.

I came across this video on You Tube with the caption
"Nia singing and dancing to Mary Jane by Rick James age 3." Her parents must be too young to know Mary Jane was reported to be about Marijuana. Then my eyeballs scroll over to the right menu and I see she has a catalog of videos. Amongst others, there is one of her singing on stage with Earth Wind & Fire, and a video about her being featured in a local Sunday newspaper. Is this too much?

But this video begs to question again: Are we pushing our children too soon to embark on a career in entertainment or showbiz?

I am not the hip hop police and I'm not applyling for the position. She is cute, yes, but this song is so inappropriate. Did this particular video have to be broadcast to the world? Just asking...WATCH VIDEO
