Here's another GOTCHA! scandal. A & E suspends his show on the heels of a scandalous National Enquirer Exclusive allegedly of him shouting the N-word repeatedly via a taped conversation, and allegedly having a hard time dealing with someone's relationship with a black girl. It's a wrap for this dude. Looks like the dog stepped in his own poop!

The National Enquirer writes:
"Dog Chapman has been captured spewing foul-mouthed racist slurs on a tape obtained exclusively by The NATIONAL ENQUIRER.
And now a civil rights leader is calling for Dog's TV show to be removed from the airwaves.
In a shocking world exclusive The ENQUIRER has obtained tapes of two revolting phone conversations in which Duane "Dog" Chapman unleashes a filthy bigoted attack, littered with the N-word and other disgusting racial insults. "

National Enquirer update:
"Update: In response to this story, A&E network has released a statement saying: "A&E has just learned of the story released by the National Enquirer concerning Duane Dog Chapman. We take this matter very seriously. Pending an investigation, we have suspended production on the series. When the inquiry is concluded we will take appropriate action.""
Doug Robinson for the Deseret Morning news wrote an article on the racial makeup of two football teams (Colts & Patriots) who have an upcoming match up. The article explores the fact that hip hop culture may be ruining the chances for promising, hopeful black sports professionals.
He makes references to claims by Jason Whitlock (who is black), that the NFL is quietly whitening up it's teams, because it does not want to risk harboring a negative corporate image, brought on by hip-hop or employees who embrace hip-hop, to a point where it affects their image on the job.
One could also question: Are black players becoming increasingly ineligble for hire? Are more white players becoming better candidates for hire (more talented physically & better academically)? Employers are practicing more affirmative action? I am not sure about the answer...

The United Press International reports:
"LONDON, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- British retail chain All Saints has come under fire for window displays that some say are reminiscent of Ku Klux Klan lynchings.
The window display at the stores across Britain features headless black mannequins suspended from silver chains, The Daily Mail reported Monday.
The Rural Racism Project, based in Devon, England, said it has contacted the chain and asked them to reconsider the display.
"I have received a number of calls from people who are offended by the window display," said John McKenzie, from the Project's monitoring group. "Some of them feel it brings to mind the lynching of black people. A number of those who have complained are white."" READ MORE...

From an August article swissinfo reports:
"Switzerland's biggest political party, the rightwing Swiss People's Party, has come under renewed fire for its hard-hitting election campaign attacking foreigners.
On Wednesday Swiss President Micheline Calmy-Rey denounced posters depicting three white sheep booting a black sheep out of the country as "irresponsible" and liable to incite racial hatred.
"I think it is important that there are people in this country who have the courage to stand up and denounce this type of campaign, which to be quite frank disgusts me. It disgusts me because it stirs up hatred. They are racist campaigns," Calmy-Rey, a member of the centre-left Social Democrats, told Swiss-French radio.
The "black sheep" posters underpin a People's Party initiative to expel foreign criminals, which was launched on August 1 – Swiss National Day – three months ahead of October's parliamentary elections." READ MORE...

Roberto Cavalli has allegedly confirmed, in a Paris Hilton/Christina Aguilera kind of way, that Jennifer Lopez is pregnant.
Yahoo! reports:
"Asked what types of clothing he designs for celebrities, the fashion designer told People magazine: "Well Jennifer Lopez, at this moment, she requests something very special because she is waiting for the baby."
"It is so complicated because every week she is getting bigger," Cavalli said in a story posted Tuesday on the magazine's Web site." READ MORE...

Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan was eliminated from the Dancing With The Stars competition, and Spice Girl, Melanie Brown is still hanging in there. I don't watch the show, but I thought some people would want to know...well, perhaps one or two...LOL
Yahoo! TV Reports:
"The only thing the Cheetah Girl couldn't pull off was the foxtrot.
Sabrina Bryan, the most promising horse out of the gate, was eliminated from Dancing with the Stars Tuesday, a shocker for all on a night—and a season—that had already played host to its share of weirdness."
Old Lady, Jane Seymour is pulling the punches...MEOWTCH! I see she sharpened her claws...LOL, man is she callin' chicks out...LOL:
""I don't have the doll thing going," Seymour said, referring to the dolls Osmond hawks on QVC. "And some dancers [like Mel B] can come out here and just walk around. You get higher scores in this competition if you just walk around. Or you go up to the judges and you go pat, pat, on the cheek and you get 10s for that."""
After only six hours of rehearsal, Melanie Brown and Maksim Chmerkovskiy continued to roar back from their brush with elimination by positively nailing their rumba, the slow Latin dance whose elusive combination of rhythm, romance and lust has proved especially hard for the stars to perfect." Please note: As you can see, this is a celebrity based list. Seriously, this list was created for entertainment purposes only, and is merely a subjective tool just as the People Magazine’s 50 most beautiful people list used. In other words, if you did not send any complaints to them about their list, do not send us any either. The list was compiled with a panel of three judges, and if you disagree with the results, not a problem. Since we will not lose sleep over your disagreement, we hope you will not either. If you do not like the results, create your own list. An opinion is an opinion. To quote John Moore—“Your opinion is your opinion, your perception is your perception--do not confuse them with "facts" or "truth". "WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The AIDS virus invaded the United States in about 1969 from Haiti, carried most likely by a single infected immigrant who set the stage for it to sweep the world in a tragic epidemic, scientists said on Monday.
Michael Worobey, a University of Arizona evolutionary biologist, said the 1969 U.S. entry date is earlier than some experts had believed.
The timeline laid out in the study led by Worobey indicates that HIV infections were occurring in the United States for roughly 12 years before AIDS was first recognized by scientists as a disease in 1981. Many people had died by that point." READ MORE...
I was driving to Hartford, Connecticut last week and noticed the major R&B and hip hop station changed its format to rock with no warning to the listening audience...what a nice farewell, thank you. At first, I thought it was a mistake, as I kept flipping the channels back and forth I eventually realized it was not a mistake. I was trying to find the Steve Harvey Morning Show.
The same thing happened last year here in the Boston area when 97.7 was switched to rock without warning or notice. The loyal radio audience is the last to know, the jocks and staff probably only know within only a 24 hours notice. It's just cold, callous, and inconsiderate. There's no better way to say screw you to the listening audience.

Referring to the principal, Winfrey said: "I trusted her. When I appointed her, I thought she was passionate about the children of Africa. But I've been disappointed."
According to reports in the United States, the father of one of the pupils responded by telling Winfrey: "It's not your fault. We don't blame you.
"You trusted them. You have more passion for the school and its existence than anyone else in this country, including us parents." Winfrey gave parents the assurance she would do everything possible to ensure that those who had been guilty of abuse would be dealt with." READ MORE...

The New York Times reports:
"SEATTLE, Oct. 26 — Guglielmo Olivotto, an Italian prisoner of war, died with a noose around his neck, lynched at a military post on Puget Sound 63 years ago. Samuel Snow, 83, hopes that people will stop blaming him and the 27 other black soldiers convicted of starting the riot that led to Mr. Olivotto’s death. It was one of the largest Army courts-martial of World War II.
This week, a review board issued a ruling that could lead to overturning the convictions of all 28 soldiers, granting honorable discharges and providing them with back pay.
The board found that the court-martial was flawed, that the defense was unjustly rushed and that the prosecutor, Leon Jaworski, a young lieutenant colonel who went on to fame three decades later as a Watergate special prosecutor, had important evidence that he did not share with defense lawyers." Hip hop's Murder Inc. head honcho Irv Gotti, responsible for Lloyd, Ja Rule and Ashanti's success, recently did an interview with an AP reporter and he has a reality show airing on VH1. It's apparent that he loves his wife and family dearly, but perhaps not enough to remain monogamous and committed to his marriage and family unit. He talks about his comeback career, Ja Rule and his straying ways. Why has she not headed to divorce court already?
Maybe a change gone come soon? I'm just sayin'.....

In this interview:
"AP: Are you worried that your wife is going to see you on camera with other women?
Gotti: I told Deb, when Deb kicked me out of the house, let's just get it out there. I was a cheating bastard. ... When she kicked me out it was funny because there was a lot of hatred that she had towards me. It was no good. After she kicked me out, I told her, "You placed your bet. You placed your bet once you kicked me out that I wouldn't survive and function without seeing my kids and waking up because I love ... my kids." I grew accustomed once I was out of the house because I was working so much. It was like seeing them just on the weekends was almost the same thing as when I was living there. Me and her developed a friendship and once we developed a friendship, I confessed. It was like a cleansing period. I told her every crazy thing that I did and it was no more lies.

This is a good time for sports in New England. Although I am also a Florida and New York fan, it's okay to like more than one team, and since I transplanted to Massachusetts, it's been hard not to cheer for the local teams. Ashanti did sing God Bless America/ The National Anthem at the opening game, somewhere during a break. She was alright or mediocre in vocal talent, but she looked fabulous, and I am not quite sure whether or not her performance was lipsynched. I must admit, as I watched it live, I kept thinking: How did she get this gig? Wondering if Nelly had anything to do with it. You be the judge. Watch Ashanti tear the house down.
A really good article on commentary by Deborah Douglas at the Chicago Sun Times. The article makes reference to the recent Light Skinned Women party, Jena 6 and black folks sensitivity or lack of sensitivity to our skin color issues. It just emphasizes the fact, that in this day and age, we are still living by the brown paper bag rule.
On October 19, 2007 Douglas writes:
"It's a dark day in America when I can't get inside a club because my skin tone is too deep to be let in. But that's just what happened in Detroit recently when a promoter advertised free all-night admission to light-skinned black women, leaving us darkies standing outside -- unless we wanted to pay up.
Didn't black America just get mad at the white folks in Jena, La., for being too blase about their kids tying nooses on a tree on school grounds? Isn't this the same country that got distracted from the war in Iraq and Darfur genocide for a whole week because some old dude named Don Imus called a bunch of us nappy-headed?
Sometimes I wonder who's holding black folks back more? Them? Or us? Oh, yeah, it's dirty laundry time, and I'm gonna tell it.
It's us." READ MORE...

There is nothing more unattractive or hurtful to my eyes than a grown man spending time with his Xbox. Correction... a grown man and his grown friends hogging the TV, huddled around the living room furniture or floor playing Xbox for hours. I do not think I could ever marry or date an XBoxer. When I was growing up, we had Atari, that was fun, and I outgrew it. Then along came Nintendo, Game Boy, and other games. At some point, we are supposed to outgrow these games, right?
The reason I mention Xbox is, that it plays a role in the strain in many relationships. Some men are addicted to playing Xbox games, and do not even realize it. Addicted? When many people think of addiction, they think of gambling, alcohol, drugs, shopping, food, or perhaps even sex addictions, but gamer addiction is growing, especially online gaming. Many people are in denial and do not seem to think they have a problem. They rationalize and say things like, “Well, I am not out cheating,” or “At least you know where I am. I am at home with you,” or worst, “I’m just having harmless fun.”

Memphis strike, 1968: Ernest Withers’s image of sanitation workers with the sign “I Am a Man.”
The New York Times reports:
"Ernest C. Withers, a photographer whose voluminous catalog of arresting black-and-white images illustrates a history of life in the segregated South in the 1950s and ’60s, from the civil rights movement to the Beale Street music scene, died on Monday in Memphis. He was 85.
Mr. Withers worked as a freelance photographer at a time when events of the day were not just newsworthy but historic occasions. He photographed the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. resting at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis after the March Against Fear in 1966, and riding one of the first desegregated buses in Montgomery, Ala., in 1956, along with the Rev. Ralph David Abernathy.
He photographed a mass of men all holding placards reading “I Am a Man” at the Memphis sanitation workers’ strike, the last march led by Dr. King before his assassination in April 1968. He also covered Dr. King’s funeral.
Mr. Withers was the only photographer who covered the entire trial of those charged with killing Emmett Till, a black teenager who was said to have whistled at a white woman. He also photographed the funeral of Medgar Evers, the civil rights activist who was killed in 1963, and the nine black students who integrated Central High School in Little Rock, Ark., in 1957." Ithaca High School students left to right: Matt Lee, Elizabeth Armstrong, Matthew Pinkard, Clarisa Linder

The New York Times reports:
"ITHACA, N.Y., Oct. 18 — Nestled in the hills near Cayuga Lake’s southern tip, surrounded by creeks, waterfalls and two of the Northeast’s more prestigious colleges, this city of about 30,000 has long prided itself on its cultural diversity.
Tempers flared last week over the district’s handling of a two-year-old racial-harassment complaint. Almost half of the 1,600 students at Ithaca High School stayed home two days amid fears of possible violence and a rumored “hit list” that singled out minority students who have been seeking a forum to bring their grievances into the open.
For one thing, some students contend that administrators routinely dole out harsher punishments to minority students, a charge that school officials deny.
The latest furor arose when one mother claimed that district officials failed to act quickly enough when her daughter — a 12-year-old middle school student at the time — was subjected to racial slurs, threatened, spat on and punched by a group of white boys who called themselves “the rednecks” on the school bus beginning in the fall of 2005.
Upset that it took five months for district officials to step in and end the harassment — which resulted in suspensions and, in the case of two youths, criminal charges — the mother, Amelia Kearney, filed a complaint with the Tompkins County Human Rights Commission." READ MORE...

It's nice to see someone get out of prison and have determination to do right by making a legitimate living, and staying out of trouble. Will be interesting to see where this clothing line goes. Nieto used his business aspirations and sketches to keep him focused on his release during his four year bid.
After legally setting up his company, he enlisted the aid of graphic artists such as Fonzi, a regular in the lowriding community, to convert his sketches into digital artwork that was print worthy. The original sketches were Nieto's work, but he began using artwork by artists such as Tattoo Tony or friends that were still on the inside." READ MORE...

The old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no sorrow in your tone.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effort
Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was.
There is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?

"Latina: You've been an outspoken advocate for Afro-Latinos, including when you said Afro-Latinos need a civil rights movement. Do you think racism is different in the United States versus in the Caribbean or Latin America?
Tego: Well, I'd say yes. In the United States, it's more obvious who is your enemy. In our countries, it's more subtle yet more (pervasive).
Latina: We often hear now in the U.S. that there's a growing black-Latino divide. Having worked with African-American hip-hop artists, what's your take on that?
Tego: Obviously a lot of Latinos have African blood. But now we are getting to be so many here in the United States that maybe the African-Americans feel displaced. We're seen as the competition. It's the same thing that happens in Puerto Rico with the Dominicans who have come there, that people view them as a threat or competition. I would like to see all of that change and relations get better." READ MORE...

I caught about 15 minutes of her interview. Shar (Sharisse) Jackson on Wendy Williams today and talks about: Brandy-when she last saw her, being self-sufficient, Polow Da Don, drugs, Britney Spears, Plastic surgery, contact lenses, teen parenthood, single parenting, winning Celebrity rap star contest, being born in Boston, Britney stealing her man (K-Fed), her kids, her car accident, the VH1 rap star reality show, plastic surgery, her masters degree in psychology and forensic science, sex, sexuality, how she met K-Fed (Wendy talks too much about Kevin Federline & Britney), family, and more. She has always seemed to have that "I don't need a man to take care of my kids" attitude. This is fine and well, but men need to be held responsible for the kids they bring into this world. Popular blogger Sandra Rose wrote on her site re: arrested rapper, T.I. or TIP:
"Last Friday, I received a call from an Atlantic records exec who informed me that T.I.'s lawyers were discussing amongst themselves the fact that the judge read my blog and was "very angry" by what he read. The exec indicated that the judge may have been angry enough to alter his decision to release T.I. on house arrest last Friday. The exec asked me to "be more sensitive" about what I wrote regarding T.I.
I agreed to comply with the record exec's request but later that same night I heard from two others in T.I.'s camp who said T.I.'s lawyers informed them that if T.I. isn't released this coming Friday it will be my fault. As ridiculous as that may sound, I'm taking this reckless innuendo seriously. I decided to post this for two reasons a) because I want this on record just in case, and b) because some people have a hard time accepting the fact that T.I. - not bloggers or the media - is responsible for his current situation.
I don't believe for one minute that the judge reads Sandrarose.com. If I was T.I. I would be concerned about paying all that money to lawyers who would resort to these types of intimidation tactics. The attorneys need to be worried about their case and not about what some random blogger writes." READ MORE...

We quickly forget Alfonso used to star in commercias and perform as the tap dance kid before he became Carlton Banks on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Seems as if almost everyone who saw this romantic comedy stage play loves it. It stars Billy Dee Williams, Leon, Elise Neal, Shirley Murdock and Lenny Williams (oh, oh, oh, oh, ohhhhhh, lol). Someone commented that the Black National Anthem was sung at the show. We have it on this site, if you don't know it or need a refresher. It's in one of our earliest posts and has lyrics and music links. The show is produced by Johnson's I'm Ready Productions.

Described by Yahoo! Upcoming:
"Je'Caryous Johnson's romantic comedy, 'Shackin' Up' is the latest from the writer of 'Whatever She Wants.' She's a woman who seemingly has it all. But attorney Chastity Moore is missing the one thing her parents want her to have most... a HUSBAND! Feeling the pressure from her father, Wayne Moore, to finally tie the knot with her longtime wealthy boyfriend, Jamarcus Hansen, Chastity offers what she thinks is the perfect compromise...take marriage for a six month test spin and begin "Shackin' Up!" It's a move that doesn't sit too well with Chastity's mother, Patricia Moore, who can't fathom how a daughter she raised would even think about Shackin' Up."

Long before Eve, Foxy Brown, Lil Kim, etc., there was Roxanne. Remember Roxanne Shante from the 80s'? Now she is Dr. Roxanne Shante. See, there is life after hip hop. Her starter website at www.roxanneshante.com states:

Still love my Yankees too, but they (owners) were wrong for what they did to manager Joe Torre... Steinbrenner putting his impending pink slip announcement out in the media. Just wrong. Joe, stand by what you believe in.
In fairness to the promoter, he reportedly stated he had planned on having other "hue" themed party nights also, and he has regrets about the whole concept. This is old news by black blog standards and has already been debated on the major and not so major black and urban oriented blogs, but the story has finally hit mainstream media, and MSNBC reports:

"Free club admission for black women with light skin tone sparks outrage
DETROIT - Yasmine Toney describes herself as a “dark-skinned sista.” So when she heard about a recent club promotion in Detroit, allowing all-night free admission to black women with fair or light skin, she was incensed.
“It’s offensive,” Toney said. “It continues a negative stereotype.”
“I’m perceived to be aggressive, assertive, attitude-having ... a lot of things, because my complexion is darker,” said the 24-year-old receptionist.
The party was canceled last week after its promoter, who is black, received dozens of complaints. But for Toney and other black women, the issue reopened old, deep wounds as word of the party spread through the Internet.
Ulysses Barnes, who goes by the name DJ Lish, says he canceled his “Light Skinned Women & ALL LIBRA’s” promotion after complaints rolled in from women, activists and organizations across the country.
“I thought it was a brilliant promotion at the time,” said Barnes, who has spent the last several days apologizing to people. “I didn’t anticipate any type of feedback. It was just a party thing.”
Barnes, 27, canceled future “sexy chocolate” and “sexy caramel” promotions and just wants the controversy to go away." READ MORE...
The article also makes note of "“Other People’s Skin,” four novellas released this month and co-authored by Atkins and three other black women. The fictional work looks at discrimination that results from “colorism” in the black community."
"Other People's Skin" is described by eBooks as:
"In Other People’s Skin, Tracy Price–Thompson and TaRessa Stovall, along with fellow authors Elizabeth Atkins and Desiree Cooper, take on one of the most controversial topics within the African–American community: the self–hatred caused by intra–racial prejudice and the ongoing obsession with skin tone and hair texture. In other words, the skin/hair thang among black women.
It begins with TaRessa Stovall’s “My People, My People,” in which a successful advertising executive acquires firsthand knowledge of prejudice when her clients insist on using light– rather than dark–skinned models. Next comes Tracy Price–Thompson’s award–winning story “Other People’s Skin,” a tale set in 1970s Louisiana, where a dark–skinned young woman must come to terms with the bigotry of her light–skinned family. “New Birth,” by Desiree Cooper reveals the intense roles that money, class, and skin color play in the intra–racial relationship between Catherine, a wealthy, light–skinned lawyer, and Lettie, her dark–skinned house cleaner. Finally, Elizabeth Atkin’s “Take It Off” tells the story of a biracial girl who hides her coarse, braided hair from her friends at a mixed–race university in Detroit.
Other People’s Skin is the most innovative and varied anthology of sisterhood and unity to date. Each novella entertains, challenges, and, most important, offers healing to the reader—no matter what her race, skin tone, or state of mind."

"President's Welcome
Dear Friends:
The most disturbing social trend of our times is the dramatic increase in fatherlessness in the United States.
In 1960, less than 8 million children were living in families where the father was absent. Today the number of children living in father-absent homes stands at 24 million. That means that tonight one out of every three children in America will go to sleep in a home in which their father does not live. While it is at times easy to throw around statistics such as these to make a point, the plain truth of the matter is that for every one of these frightening statistics, there is a child attached to it, and, on average, the consequences of father absence for each of these youngsters are not good. Children who grow up in father-absent homes are significantly more likely to do poorly on almost any measure of child well-being. For example:
*Almost 75 percent of American children who grow up in single-parent homes will experience poverty before they turn 11-years-old, compared to only 20 percent for families where there are two parents.
*Violent criminals are overwhelmingly males who grew up without fathers, including 72 percent of adolescent murderers and 70 percent of long-term prison inmates.
*Children living in father-absent homes are also more likely to be suspended from school, or to drop out; be treated for an emotional or behavioral problem; commit suicide as adolescents; and be victims of child abuse or neglect.
The National Fatherhood Initiative, supported by its members, is working to change all this. We serve as a catalyst for engaging America in a public and forthright discussion about the necessity of reversing these trends. National Fatherhood Initiative encourages and supports family and father-friendly policies, develops national public education campaigns to highlight the importance of fathers in the lives of their children, provides motivation for national and local coalition-building, and provides resources to men to help them be better dads.
I extend to you my personal greeting and invitation to support the National Fatherhood Initiative. Ensuring that more children grow up with involved and committed fathers is the best way to ensure that every child has what should be their birthright: a happy and secure childhood.

This is outrageous. School systems have too much power. They want to handout birth control pills (bcp), which promote risks of STDs. Would you rather have your 11 year old come home pregnant, because she could not get consent to have bcp? On the other hand would you rather her have bcp and intercourse without your knowledge. Each case is a lose-lose situation? This topic has been burning up the talk radio airwaves in New England. I have listened to various opinions. Just plain crazy. Kids need permission slips signed to go on field trips, and can't bring an aspirin to school. What's the world coming to?
Don't forget we are talking about 11 to 13 years olds from grades 6 to 8 at King Middle School in Portland, Maine.

AP News reports:
"PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Pupils at a city middle school will be able to get birth control pills and patches at their student health center after the local school board approved the proposal Wednesday evening.
The plan, offered by city health officials, makes King Middle School the first middle school in Maine to make a full range of contraception available to students in grades 6 through 8, according to the state Department of Health and Human Services.
Diane Miller said she felt the plan was against religion and against God. Another opponent, Peter Allen, said he felt it violated the rights of parents and puts students at risk of cancer because of hormones in the pill.
A supporter, Richard Verrier, said it's not enough to depend on parents to protect their children because there may be students who can't discuss things with their parents.
Students treated at the centers must first get written parental permission, but under state law such treatment is confidential, and students decide for themselves whether to tell their parents about the services they receive." READ MORE...

According to state controller John Chiang, 26 of the people who were going to be publicly revealed as delinquent taxpayers coughed up the money out of embarrassment, leaving 224 people on the list, which was released Wednesday.
"Certainly, people don't want the public embarrassment of being on the list," Chiang told the Los Angeles Times. "I wouldn't want to be on a list with O.J. Simpson."" READ MORE
This is when real bands used to sing REAL R&B with REAL instruments. No technology to enhance their voices or instruments. In general, groups weren't singing about killing and who has more bling in these songs. I was a kid when this song was playing on the radio and I just heard it on Memory Lane (early every Saturday morning until 1 or 2pm- www.wdkx.com, you will fall in love with Memory Lane & gospel Sunday mornings). One more thing...people wore clothes, and did not feel like "flaunting it, if you got it" meant you had to show body parts to be sexy or get attention. They saved that for hookers, strippers, and fast women. It all seems like the dinosaur ages.
Wish we could get back to that mentality. aaaawwww....

Is something not right here or is this an overreaction? Just a random thought: Why do most commercials with black actors have to play hip-hop type music in the background? It is most likely marketed to the black community, and advertisers need to realize we have varied tastes in music. And even if it airs during non-black interest programming...should consider trying something (music wise) else?
This commercial is running to "Movin' On Up?" It's like...oh, now we up in the big leagues, and we finally get to go to the big ball. Someone else interpreted as: We're finally good enough to drive a Mercedes. Don't like this theme. I don't know. I am not losing sleep over it. Just thoughts...

Have you ever waited online or on the phone for tickets to go on sale for an event, only to find your choice of seats is not so good?
I used to always blame this on Clear Channel or the radio station. Forgive me CC, but it looks like the reason we can't get good seats anymore, is because the playing field is not fair, and a federal judge just ordered RMG Technologies to stop selling its software, which cheats the average customer out of obtaining good seats fairly.
Maybe, now I will have a better chance at getting front row seats to my favorite event. This is a major reason (outside of outrageous ticket prices + fees) I cut back on going to events. Who wants to go to a show and constantly view the stage show through binoculars?
Yesterday The New York Times reported:
“A federal judge ordered RMG Technologies yesterday to stop selling software that lets users flood the Ticketmaster Web site with requests and snap up tickets in bulk, beating the humans who log in manually to buy tickets...“We will not allow others to illegally divert tickets away from fans,” Ticketmaster’s chief executive, Sean Moriarty, said in a statement.
RMG sells software to ticket brokers or their suppliers, who resell the tickets at higher prices.” READ MORE…

When it rains it pours. In the meanwhile, the The Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper is reporting Juanita Bynum's $4.5 million home is set to be auctioned due to non-payment of $32,000+ in year 2006 back taxes. Where are their church members when they are in a real time of need? Hhhmmm
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports:
Ware County Tax Commissioner Steve Barnard filed a lien against the 23.6-acre property owned by Juanita Bynum Ministries on June 7, citing failure to pay $32,007.56 in 2006 property tax.
According to the lien, a $3,200 penalty and $2,240 in interest is also owed.
It's the latest legal drama involving the nationally known Pentecostal evangelist, who has been in the news in recent weeks after alleging she was beaten by her estranged husband, Thomas Weeks.
Barnard said Tuesday that the property, on St. Bernard Trail near Waycross, will be sold at auction on Nov. 6 on the steps of the Ware County Courthouse. The auction will be canceled if Bynum Ministries, which still has ownership, pays the full amount before that date, he said.
Bynum's Waycross-based ministry bought the property for $4.5 million last year.
Barnard said there is a 7,487-square-foot house, a 6,748-square-foot house and a 1,366-square-foot house on the property. Bynum lives in one of the homes, he said.

The Salt-N-Pepa Show aired last night. I don't care too much for the reality shows, so I have not watched it, but they did a telling interview with VH1 last month. For those of us who grew with them and wondered what happened to them, read the intereview. It is interesting on another level that it highlights some of the problems groups in entertainment face, and alludes to reason or two why they break up. Pepa obviously has some surgical facial changes (was a beautiful girl), and Salt has some subtle changes.
VH1 writes:
"If you saw the preview for The Salt-N-Pepa Show that we posted a few weeks ago, you know that the fact they're in the same room together (and often these days!) is a big deal. After years of estrangement and changing attitudes (for one thing, Cheryl intensified her spirituality), they've finally reunited. For me, it was an even bigger deal: I grew up loving these women and getting the chance to talk to them was an unbelievable opportunity. It was all a dream, indeed. Toward the end of their busy day, Cheryl, Sandy and I gathered around Cheryl's dining room table to talk about their show, their music, hip-hop and so much more. Part 1 of our exclusive interview with Salt-N-Pepa starts after the jump...
A lot of time is spent on the show talking about Cheryl's spirituality. I wonder where you are with religion, Sandy.
Pepa: I definitely believe in God. I have a different...love. I will go to church, but I'll go out the night before, have my drinks and whatever. I [got freaky with] a banana on The Surreal Life, but I went to church the next week! I handle it a little different, I don't care about what people think. I'm gonna have to deal with that at the end of the day. I deal with me, because you don't know what He's thinking. And he deals with me.
Salt: And for me, that's fine. I don't have a problem with that. That's my pet peeve, to be perceived that way. God gives us all a choice to live. This is my choice and I don't have a problem with your choice. Just don't have a problem with my choice. But creatively, the challenge is making her choice and my choice into one choice. And that's the show." READ MORE...
In this video, the two have a heart to heart talk. Salt reveals she was Bulemic and Pep says she felt betrayed and left hanging after the group disbanded.
Here is Tyler Perry's latest message (date 10-14-7) from his website addressing issues surrounding his latest box office success "Why Did I Get Married?"

Tyler Perry writes:
"Hello, hello, hello!
Before I get into this I just want you to know that this one may be a little long. (smile)
These last two weeks I have been on a promotional tour for MARRIED. 9 states, 25 private screenings, several TV and radio appearances; all in about 12 days! And let me tell you--it has taken a toll.
- I have been told that since I'm not in a dress this movie wouldn't work.
- I have been called a racist (among other things) because there are no other races represented in this film (that's not something that I ever think about...I just want to tell a good story).
- I have been lied to, tricked, deceived.
There was one reporter, who I was told was coming from New York to do a favorable piece. She sat in my office and smiled and asked me all kinds of questions. When the article came out it was all out of context and all about how my movies are the worst thing that have ever happened to Black people and that I am doing nothing but modern day step-and-fetch it, and that I'm just trying to get rich. I was shocked and quite upset by the trickery. Not only by her but also the things that were said about this movie in print were so awful. Several Hollywood trades didn't even mention that MARRIED was a contender for number one. They thought that the number one would be George Clooney's movie or Mark Walbrurg's movie.
Now I had never ever read any of this stuff in the past, but for some reason I felt lead to read it this time. The venom and disdain for what I do was apparent. And speaking of venom, what they did to Janet was unacceptable. Janet, who was under no obligation at all to promote this movie, sat with me while I was doing a round of TV interviews. Half way through the three hours of sitting in the same spot she was attacked by a reporter on a Sacramento morning show who only wanted to talk about the Super Bowl incident.
Now, I made it perfectly clear before we went live on the air that I wasn't talking about the Super Bowl or Janet's family. We had less than 5 minuets so I wanted to keep it positive and focus on the movie. But he didn't want to keep it positive. I had to maintain my composure because we were live on the air. I didn't let her speak. I kept jumping in because it was just so unfair to her. I have not seen Justin Timberlake attacked like that. I wasn't going to let them do that to her. Believe me when I tell you--Janet worked so hard on this film. She deserved more respect from this man than that! We both did.
In the midst of all of this I was fighting trying to get more screens because every other movie that opens with a track record like mine have not had to deal with fighting for screens. Most of the movies of my counterparts open on at least 3,000 screens. MARRIED was given 2,000. Needless to say I was exhausted and mentally drained. So, by this time it was last Thursday and I just had no more to give. So, when I started to write that email (about the movie and for you to please check your tickets and so on) all that I could think was, "Tyler don't let these people get you down. As a matter of fact, speak a word of encouragement to the people that have been there for you and let that be that!"
Every time I'm overwhelmed by negative I just have to remember how good God has been to me. And as I was thinking about all of this all I could hear was LIVE YOUR DREAM BOY! LIVE YOUR DREAM!!
I wrote to you about dreams because I was just in a place of realizing that I had done all that I could do and the movie was in God's hands, so I just wanted to encourage somebody. After I sent that email to you I was reading your responses on the message board and, well, you don't know what you did for me. Here I was thinking that I was encouraging you and then you turned around and encouraged me! That's why I thank God for you and your messages.
But little did I know how much more was to come...Jesus!!!
So, now cut to Friday. . .Dear GOD!!!" READ MORE...

Montel Williams recently married his longtime girlfriend Tara Fowler and his 12 year old daughter, Winter Grace, allegedly called in to complain (about her dad) on the Wendy Williams show, and put the television talk show host on blast. It is rumored that she and her brother by his second wife, Grace, were not invited. We have a taped copy of the phone call, but won't post it, because this girl is twelve, and who knows for sure whether it is really her.

This is a 2004 repost from BN Village, a UK community forum. I thought this was one of the most interesting posts by community member CHI and the topic entitled, Sisters Who Perm- Self Hatred?

Chi writes:
"Both black women and men, rarely stop to think before putting chemicals in their hair (many do so at an impressionable age) we dont really question it. It is very acceptable in the black community, even if it is just as unhealthy for some people as bleaching (some people actually lighten blemishes in order to even skin tone , not because they hate their dark skin) does that mean it's alright and dandy in general, ofcourse not.
People will go on about blonde weaves but burn their scalps every six weeks in order for it to be straight.................texturiser is not enough for most (yes it makes the hair more "manageable") BUT NOT BONESTRAIGHT (WHICH IS REALLY WHAT MANY WOMEN ARE AFTER), so people still opt for the dark and lovely.
People will come down on celebs (like Beyonce) for giving young black girls an "unhealthy impression" of themselves, but are in full support of Kelly's relaxer ads......................as if it's any better.
Anyhoo.....................just because we accept something it doesn't make it helpful. A woman will go into a hair store and pick up a super strength relaxer and give the woman that picks up the brightening cream a dirty look..................but its all the same thing in many cases..............
Why teach black girls to love their tone, but not their hair?
Love your curves but not your hair.
Love your lips, but not your hair
Love you booty, "but damn let me pay for you to get you hair did"
Guys you have to take some responsibility here also, sorry, but some of you will never date a lady with natural hair, or compliment a girl with anatural style.
Obviously, we have to own up to our responsibilites as women too.........but how would you feel if the majority of us required you texturise your hair from the age of 15 onwards, While we happilykept our hair in it's natural state?
I too have recieved many looks of disgust from black men, but more so black women. Never ever happened when my hair was relaxed, ever.
(African men really love it though).......Thank God for them."

There are too many evil animals walking amongst us. Ladies, watch the men you befriend, especially if you have children. He was sentenced to death. One less mouth for the taxpayers to feed.
AP News reports:
"MIAMI - A man convicted of murder for leaving a 5-year-old girl to be eaten alive by alligators in the Everglades was sentenced to death Monday.
A defense attorney said Harrel Franklin Braddy, who already served time in prison for attempted murder but was released early for good behavior, had befriended Shandelle Maycock and her daughter, Quatisha, through his involvement in church outreach programs.
Prosecutors said Braddy drove the girl’s mother to a remote sugarcane field, choked her to unconsciousness and left her to die. Maycock woke up bleeding and disoriented, but managed to flag down help.
Braddy drove the girl to a section of Interstate 75 in the Everglades known as Alligator Alley and dropped her in the water beside the road, prosecutors said. She was alive when alligators bit her on the head and stomach, a medical examiner said." READ MORE...

The beautifully, talented rapper/actress Eve did a Q & A with Entertainment Weekly and left some interesting tidbits. EW reports:
"With her new record set to release some time next year (fingers crossed), Eve sounds off on being one of the only female rappers left in the game and why she just can't call Fergie or Gwen Stefani hip-hop
...Eve, 28, tells EW she's still got more skills than a lot of male MC's tallying up record sales in the ''testosterone-driven'' rap game, and that she's going to wait until she's 100 percent confident in her new CD before she lets it drop.
Speaking of a new musical movement, how do you feel about re-entering a musical landscape that's getting overloaded with female vocalists in an era with virtually no successful female rappers? In some ways, it's hard. But in other ways, it almost is like I kinda feel like it was when I first came out. Even though there were two females that were in the forefront, but at the same time, there was nobody I felt, in my opinion, like me that came out, so I feel like I'm starting all over. I feel like a new artist again.
What particular challenges have you faced in getting this album off the ground? It's a lot. It's different. There was a time when you could put out a single and then put your record out five weeks after and you knew if the single did well at radio that told you how your album was gonna do. Nowadays, a single could play for weeks and weeks and weeks on the radio, it could be the biggest single, and the album sales don't match up. So, you know, it's a different format, and I don't even think that anybody has the formula to it now. So it's totally different. You definitely have to go about it a different way. You definitely have to take your time and think and come up with a good strategy, and that aspect is really different.
Has the success of artists like Fergie and Gwen Stefani made it harder for female rappers because they've come in and created a new, pop-friendly mix of pop, hip-hop, and R&B sounds? I think what makes that hard for us is that they're not hip-hop, period. I'll never, ever be able to give Fergie or Gwen that title. I love them. I think they're dope. I think they make good music. But they're not hip-hop. They emulate hip-hop in certain things that they do, but they're not hip-hop. And I think that hurts hip-hop in a way because it's confusing the lines. I also must admit that hip-hop is the new pop. Like hip-hop five years ago, Soulja Boy couldn't get played on the same station that Fergie was playing on or that the Black Eyed Peas were playing on or that Justin was playing on. Or Justin couldn't be on an urban station five years ago. But now, all the lines have blurred. But at the same time, calling Fergie and Gwen hip-hop hurts females, I think. It hurts the female MCs." I happened to flip thru television channels last night and saw R & B crooner Tyrese Gibson on Extra! Why did they say he was one of Hollywood's most eligible bachelors and that he is single? Last I knew, and most recently, I saw photos of him with a very expectant (pregnant) partner/fiancée. What's wrong with this picture? Yes. They are not married. Does this explain the reporting? They mentioned his new rock band he signed, Life Nine. He recently signed them and this woman was with child before the report of signing them, so the information about him being single really confused me. ![]()

WHO: Warren Ballentine "The People’s Attorney" and radio Truth Fighter is calling for
National Blackout throughout America.
WHAT: Warren is calling for a National Blackout that is necessary for African Americans, and is long over due. Especially with all the present injustices that are being allowed and accepted in America right now. From the situation with Mychal Bell and the Jena 6, Genarlow Wilson, Megan Williams, and all of the nooses being hung all of America lately. Until we have federal legislation regarding hate crimes as African Americans we need to band together to show our "Economic Power" by refusing to spend ANY money from fast food restaurants to gas.
WHY: As African Americans we spend an estimated 715 billion dollars a year, and if we were to stop spending for one day that is 2 billion dollar that will not in the system. However we ask that you don’t make a mad dash to the stores days prior or the days following. If the stores have a major increase in sales right before or right after the Blackout than we will create the impact we need.

WHERE: Nationwide Blackout for ALL African Americans

ABC News had an interesting piece on child preachers. Is this a good thing, exploition, or are they being robbed of their childhood? What about grown folks topics? ABC News Reports:
"Seven-year-old Samuel Boutwell is an outgoing and well-spoken second grader. He loves to play with his dogs and play soccer, but he loves something else even more.
Precocious Preacher Samuel is a Baptist preacher at a church in his home town of Brookhaven, a small town in southwestern Mississippi. He also preaches outside in front of the local Wal-Mart, and has preached on the road in Virginia, Louisiana, Tennessee, Washington D.C., and the streets of New York City.
Like many, Samuel said he became a preacher after he was "saved" by Jesus -- he just happened to be 3 years old at the time. "After I got saved, I knew I could try to reach more people to try to get saved," Samuel said. His sin against God? Disobeying his mom. And so the boy turned to Jesus." READ MORE... WATCH VIDEO

"CONCORD, N.C. – NASCAR fans have been criticized for a number of things over the years, ranging from perpetuating a redneck stereotype to still showing pride in the Rebel Flag.
Now, as one Mississippi congressman would have you believe, NASCAR fans are also a threat to national security and the nation's health.
Yes, you, Bubba. You, too, Bobbie Sue. Y'all got the cooties.
That's what Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, would have you believe.
The seven-term Congressman recently instructed committee aides who visited Talladega Superspeedway last weekend and are also at this weekend's Nextel Cup race at Lowe's Motor Speedway to be immunized against a variety of diseases such as hepatitis A, hepatitis B, diphtheria, tetanus and influenza.
Officially, the action was supposedly part of a broader review of federal response to massive emergencies at a large, crowded venue like Lowe's Motor Speedway." READ MORE...

Today in Panama City, Florida the jury acquitted them in the boot camp death of 14 year old here is some background information from USA TODAY:
"Anderson was black; the guards are white, black and Asian. The boy died in January 2006 after being taken to a hospital from the boot camp, which was run by the county sheriff's office.
He had been sent to the camp for a probation violation and became lethargic during a physical fitness test shortly after arriving. An exercise yard videotape shows the seven guards repeatedly hitting the boy with their fists and knees. The camp nurse is accused of watching but doing nothing during most of the 30-minute encounter.
The eight defendants are charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child, which carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison.
A first autopsy on Anderson, conducted by the Bay County medical examiner, attributed his death to natural complications of a genetic blood disorder. After an outcry from Anderson's family and the public, his body was exhumed and a second autopsy by another doctor found he had suffocated.
The state Legislature dismantled the state's military-style youth boot camps after Anderson's death. The case also led to the resignation of the chief of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
The Legislature agreed to pay Anderson's family $5 million this year to settle civil claims."
The New Yorker has a very interesting article on the evolution of radio shock jockette Wendy Williams. They write:

(Photo of Wendy Williams with parents)

"Meanwhile, she upgraded her exterior. “In my mind, I’ve always been fabulous,” she says. She’d long planned to be fabulous on the outside too. She’d grown up, as she puts it, “a fatty A-cup,” which wouldn’t do. “I want more. I want it bigger. I want it Wendy,” she says. (If she were a guy, Wendy figures, she’d have been a drag queen.) When she first got implants, she bounced excitedly up to her oldest friend Lisa. Lisa is naturally endowed. “Dammit, I need them bigger,” Lisa remembers her saying. She’s got D-cups now, though she wears a smaller bra for what she calls the “muffin breast” look, spillage over the edges.
Wendy had liposuction, too. She was sick of fighting chunkiness, even if it was celebrated. (On one song Tupac Shakur said of Wendy, “I’ll put Jenny Craig on your fat *ss . . . Why you always wearing spandex?”)
While Wendy was at it, she rid herself of other excesses, like her first husband. She didn’t talk it out with him. Wendy was the woman with a plan—“to the nth degree,” as her sister says. After he left for work, she divided up their possessions and hired two moving vans and a locksmith. He’d figure it out.
For Wendy, everything was going well, and then in a moment it changed. In 1998, Hot 97 ignominiously booted her. There were reports that Wendy had been in a fistfight with another female D.J. (untrue, says Wendy). Certainly she had energized enemies. “Did Puffy have a hand in it? It is my belief,” she says. At Hot 97, Wendy liked to insinuate that certain rappers, despite their macho posturings, were gay. (Now she’s more subtle. Say a celebrity’s name. Then ask “How you doin’?” in a low, seductive voice. That’s the code.) Puffy was among those who came in for some innuendo. (So had Tupac.) " READ MORE...

Another fine article by Boston Globe's Vanessa E. Jones talking about dances inspired by songs. Some of the dances are tagged as new, but they are not new to everyone as most people who listen to this genre of music or have children that do, they have either seen or heard of the dances. Some people view the dances as silly, but I differ with that opinion. Dancing is not only healthy, but it keeps kids out of trouble, gives them something to own, and cultivates their creative abilities.

Here are excerpts from the Boston Globe article and accompanying videos for three dances...LOL, funny names- The Aunt Jackie, Chicken Noodle Soup, and Superman. Don't get hurt trying to do the moves, as I am not liable for any outcomes...attempt them at your own risk :)
"It's late afternoon, and the 11 members of Stajez Dance Studio slowly arrive at the South End's Blackstone Community Center, their temporary home since a flood closed the studio's Mattapan site in March. After the teens change into dancewear, 17-year-old Olethea Williams begins teaching the group a new hip-hop routine. Breaking down the moves into small sections, Williams calls out directions as the others follow her lead.
"One, two, three," she says, demonstrating intricate arm movements. Then she and the others leap into the air with their legs forming a diamond shape.
"Chicken Noodle Soup," Williams says, calling out the name of a well-known dance. The teens land and do the rapid kicks to the side, with first their right leg and then their left, that make up a portion of the "Chicken Noodle Soup." After they land with legs spread out, they continue the routine.
The latest example, "Crank That," shows not only how these dances break out but how popular the songs they're based on have become. The journey of "Crank That" began in April, when Soulja Boy uploaded the video onto YouTube - so far it's gotten more than 13 million views. The song hit No. 1 in the country just before Soulja Boy's CD, "souljaboytellem .com," received its major label release by Interscope Records last week. Visitors trolling through YouTube can find videos of Chris Brown, Beyoncé, Samuel L. Jackson, and far less famous folks doing Soulja Boy's creation. Others inspired by the "Superman" dance within "Crank That" the dance have created spinoff versions: the "Spiderman" and the "Aquaman."
So who exactly is embracing these dances? Haynes-Cardwell thinks there's no age limit. When Stajez performed at the Blackstone this summer, she noticed that everyone did the dances: kids, grandmothers, and mothers.
But Stajez member Oumaru Fofana, 17, has different ideas. His grandmother often asks him to show her the dances he's learning at practice. He'll happily demonstrate modern and ballet moves. But when she presses him to show the hip-hop steps, he says, "I was like, all right, I gotta go, girl." He couldn't bring himself to do it.
Even with the Internet helping to spread trends faster, the teens say Boston woefully trails behind on the dance front. The dances often originate in the South, usually Atlanta, or New York City. Although Fofana knew the "Aunt Jackie," some of his fellow Stajez members had never heard of it."
Here are excerpts from a piece Vanessa E. Jones wrote for the Boston Globe on how many black men have to modify the way they act and appear in a mostly white workplace. So much for blending in. Jones writes some of the best articles on black and urban culture. When you get a chance look up some of her work. Her feature stories are of substance, thought provoking, and just simply awesome.
In her Oct 9th Boston Globe article she writes:
"On Fridays, employees at the Boston Architectural College have the option to dress casually. But when Michael James, a director of human resources and diversity at the school, donned denim shorts one recent Friday, his clothing elicited a few comments. One person wasn't used to seeing James dressed so informally, someone else asked him, "What happened?" and another supportively told him to "fight the fight."
The interest in James's attire wasn't based on a pitched battle about what comprises casual dress. James believes the comments reflected the fact that he was a black man who decided to dress down at the office. "Even when we have casual Fridays," says James, 36, "I'm expected to wear a suit and tie."
Like many other black men, James says unspoken rules limit how they interact in predominantly white workplaces. In some cases, they must dress more formally than their co-workers, speak softly, or generally comport themselves in unaggressive ways to counteract stereotypes that paint black men as unintelligent, violent, and dangerous. These biases are based on long-held beliefs about black masculinity and sexuality that grew out of this country's history of slavery and segregation.
In the past, black men had no choice but to succumb to white society's fears and present themselves deferentially. But today a new generation of black men are bringing attention to and trying to change these implied rules of conduct.
As an allocation analyst at TJX Companies Inc. in Framingham for three years, starting in 2000, Wynndell Bishop says he made a conscious decision to speak with a softer voice and present himself in an unaggressive manner. "I would say 60 percent of the division I was in was young white women between the ages of 21 and 28," says Bishop, 28, who received his MBA from Boston College in May. "A lot of those women, to my knowledge, didn't have a lot of interaction with black folks other than what they saw on TV."
James makes accommodations because of his 6-foot-2 height, which, he says, has made people view him as "threatening and menacing even though I'm the most peaceful person out there." "They came from Massachusetts, Florida, and Canada, and from Flatbush, Crown Heights and Bed-Stuy. There were fur coats and fedoras, shades and patterned Coogi sweaters, and enough extra poundage to tip a Mack truck. On Saturday, nearly 100 people turned up on a quiet street in Chelsea to audition for their chance to be B.I.G.
Would-Be Biggies Arriving on foot, by Escalade or late-model sedan, men of all ages and backgrounds — but mostly one body type — came for the open casting call for “Notorious,” a biopic of the rapper Christopher G. Wallace, better known as Biggie Smalls or Notorious B.I.G. The hunt for the unknown star began online in August, when the Fox Searchlight studio invited would-be Biggies to send audition tapes. “Finding Biggie is going to be a task in itself,” Voletta Wallace, the rapper’s mother and a producer of the film, said in a video on Biggiecasting.com. Her son, who died a decade ago, at 24, in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles, stood about 6 foot 3, weighed nearly 300 pounds, and had a cocksure, easy-flowing but hard-to-imitate style.
“Anyone who felt that they can fill that shoe, can do that swagger, can try the lyrical tone, I’m welcoming them,” Ms. Wallace said. And on Saturday swagger, at least, was in great supply." READ MORE...

Paul Cahill (left), 55, and Warren Payne, 53,
This is a big story that has been brewing in our state for the past week. Both fire fighters died in the line of duty while battling a restaurant blaze. While in the building a 3-ton air conditioning/heating unit fell. One of them one burned beyond recognition, and I think the other, perhaps died from a heart attack. One of the men (with drug traces in his blood) was not scheduled to work that night, but filled in for someone. There was the funeral and a public show of grief by citizens and the media. Then weeks later, the autopsy of both men was leaked to the media, revealing one was intoxicated and the other had traces of marijuana and cocaine in his blood. Fire fighters aren't subject to mandatory blood and alcohol testing. At jeopardy is hundreds of thousands of dollars in death benefits due to be awarded to the surviving families.
The current debates are:
Whether they should still be considered heroes?
Should the insurance companies pay the families?
Should there be drug and alcohol testing?
Should the public have access to autopsy reports?
Who is criminally responsible for the leaks?
Who leaked the information?
It is an all around tragic situation.
Debate Rages Over Boston Firefighter Autopsies
Where are all the Black fathers etc ? (part 1)
Absent black fathers should be on the top of our black "leaders' " and community activism list. If Internet campaigns can motivate thousands of people to travel to Louisiana for a cause, imagine the positive changes we can make if 10 times that number of people could gather to rally for changes in the black family structure.
China Wine - SUN aka Geisha
Of course (in reggae dancehall), there is a dance called "China Wine" to appropriately accompany this dancehall tune. You will have to look it up on You Tube...lol, because if you know dancehall, you know how it goes...caution: there's some belly and hip rollin' dances in the video if you are easily bothered by that. I could swear I saw Damian Marley (Bob's son) in a rasta hat to the left of the screen.
Description from You Tube from aranteobh:
"This video peaked at 30th in Youtube's list of Top Faves (Entertainment) in August 2007!
Multi-platinum and Billboard-charting Asian pop diva SUN aka Geisha is a Singapore-born counsellor who exploded onto the international music scene just over 5 years ago. Every Mandarin pop album she has released has achieved multi-platinum sales throughout Asia, each album outperforming the previous one. SUN has performed to sold-out stadiums in Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Singapore and Australia to as many as 20,000 people a night, and was awarded everything from the MTV Asia Award to the Hong Kong Metro Music Award. In 2003, SUN broke into Hollywood with David Foster and Peter Rafelson producing her first dance hit "Where Did Love Go". This was followed by another four back-to-back dance and rhythm singles, "One With You", "Without Love", "Ends of the Earth" and "Gone", all of which hit the top of the Billboard Dance Club Chart and the UK's Music Week Dance Chart in recent years. During this period, she consolidated her position in the music industry by working with a number of prominent musicians such as Jimmy Harry, Diane Warren, Tony Moran, Chris Cox, Eric Kupper, Jason Nevins, Moto Blanco and the Underdogs. Back in Asia, having worked with top composers such as Ma Yufen, the late Ma Zhaojun, FIR, Milk, Arys Chien, Lee Wei Song and Tan Han Jin, she was announced as the top-selling music artiste of Taiwan in 2007 and was crowned the official music ambassador of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games. SUN has her own high-end fashion apparel international distribution network, based in Singapore for the Asian market, and is currently based in Los Angeles, shuttling frequently between the US and Asia. With her latest hit single, "China Wine" (feat. Wyclef Jean, Tony Matterhorn and Elephant Man), she attempts to reach listeners internationally. Her debut English-language album is slated for release in early 2008.
SUN debuts her first international music video "China Wine", adopting her first alter-ego The Geisha! It features Wyclef Jean (of Shakira's "Hips Don't Lie"), Tony Matterhorn ("Dutty Wine") & Elephant Man ("Pon di River, Pon di Bank"). Directed by internationally-renowned director Wayne Isham (of Ricky Martin's "She Bangs"), the music video also co-stars top international supermodel Tyson Beckford ("Zoolander", "Into the Blue"). SUN is dressed in specially-tailored costumes by Christian Audigier of Ed Hardy fame.
Note to the Singapore media: thanks for publicising this link. Sun is really hot and talented and she needs all the homegrown support she can get to be the world's next international sensation!"

Cornel West
Scholar, Professor of Religion. Princeton University

Cornel West, Ph.D., renowned scholar and professor of religion at Princeton University, was online Tuesday, July 17, at 10:30 a.m. ET to discuss his upcoming socially conscious recording project, "Never Forget: A Journey of Revelations," to be released next month (Hidden Beach Forum, in partnership with "Black Men Who Mean Business") and which explores the issues of race, the use of the "N-word" in popular culture and hip-hop and the current state of the world.
Dr. West provides political commentary alongside a collection of artists including Prince, Andre 3000, Talib Kweli, Jill Scott, Rhymefest, hip-hop legend KRS-One, The Roots' Black Thought, Rah Digga and the late Gerald Levert.
Here are some excerpts from that online discussion:
Baltimore, Md: Dr. West, Do you feel that the recent Imus controversy and the burying of the N word will affect the consciousness of the rap stars of today?
Dr. Cornel West: I hope that rap musicians and hip-hop artists become more sensitive to the vicious history of the "N word." That I know that "nigg*" as opposed to "nigge*" is a term of endearment for some young people. But the history of "nigge*" with its connotation of self-hatred and self-disrespect needs to be acknowledged, so the discussion of the "N word" on my CD that pits my dear brother Michael Eric Dyson who defends the word, against myself, with my dear brother Tavis Smiley moderating provides a forum for this crucial question.
+++++++++++++++++++++
Monroe, Mich.: How do you feel about Michael Eric Dyson's uncompromising defense of hip-hop? Why has the Black intelligentsia endorsed and defended the violent and materialistic culture glorified by hip hop? This is most evident in Dyson's attacks against Bill Cosby's criticism of hip-hop culture.
Dr. Cornel West: Brother Mike Eric Dyson does not defend violence, sexism or homophobia in hip-hop. That any reading of his work reveals his critique and rejection of these. He rejects the demonization of hip-hop because he, like myself, knows there are progressive hip-hop artists like Common, Lupe Fiasco, KRS-One and others who are hip-hop to the core but also critical of violence, sexism and homophobia.
+++++++++++++++++++++
Anonymous: What is your response to Bill Cosby's position on the problems facing the Black community and how they should be fixed (e.g., speaking only "correct" English)?
Dr. Cornel West: Bill Cosby's gallant attempt to correct the attitudes and actions of young people is significant. I believe that the language of correction must be informed by a fundamental compassion that he must put his love and concern for young people at the forefront of his language of correction. Young people must become more multilingual." READ MORE...

The Sunday Boston Globe reports:
"WASHINGTON - African-Americans, whose longstanding relationship with the US military helped them prove their abilities and offered a way to get ahead, have turned away from the armed forces in record numbers since 2000, a period covering the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and the start of the Iraq war.
Defense Department statistics show the number of young black enlistees has fallen by more than 58 percent since fiscal year 2000. The Army in particular has been hit hard: In fiscal year 2000, according to the Pentagon statistics, more than 42,000 black men and women applied to enlist; in fiscal year 2005, the most recent for which a racial breakdown is available, just over 17,000 signed up.
The unpopular Iraq war is the biggest reason, according to military analysts, Pentagon surveys, and interviews with young African-Americans. But they say mistrust of the Bush administration is adding to the problem - along with the notion that black soldiers are being steered to combat jobs, a lingering perception from the Vietnam War.
The decline in enlistment applications among blacks is by far the fastest of any demographic group. Between fiscal 2000 and 2005, white applicants declined by more than 10 percent. Hispanic applicants dropped by almost 7 percent." READ MORE...

Is diversity a bad thing? Do you think there is a downside to diversity? I read a Boston Globe article back in August and thought I would post in it when the mood hit. Well, today I feel so inclined to add this entry on diversity.
Well, today I felt inclined to add this entry on diversity. There has always been a notion that diversity is good for a society, but the results from a research study in which 30,000 Americans were interviewed suggests it may not be the best thing for a society. This gets interesting. There could be a grain of truth to the fact that some people who grew up in a segregated society viewed life as being of a better quality in some communities, because communities flourished with black doctors, lawyers, businesses, entrepreneurs, etc. Professional along with other role models were a constant presence in many black societies.
In the August 5, 2007 article Michael Jonas notes:
Robert Putnam’s study “has found that the greater the diversity in a community, the fewer people vote and the less they volunteer, the less they give to charity and work on community projects. In the most diverse communities, neighbors trust one another about half as much as they do in the most homogenous settings.”
Diversity makes us feel uneasy:
“Diversity, it shows, makes us uncomfortable -- but discomfort, it turns out, isn't always a bad thing. Unease with differences helps explain why teams of engineers from different cultures may be ideally suited to solve a vexing problem. Culture clashes can produce a dynamic give-and-take, generating a solution that may have eluded a group of people with more similar backgrounds and approaches. At the same time, though, Putnam's work adds to a growing body of research indicating that more diverse populations seem to extend themselves less on behalf of collective needs and goals.
He also found that the more diverse a community is, the less trusting its members are of their neighbors. In other words, if you live in a mixed neighborhood, you tend to be less trusting of your neighbors, but if you lived in a predominately black neighborhood, and you are black, you will have a tendency to be more trusting of your neighbors."
Jonas goes on to write:
""People living in ethnically diverse settings appear to 'hunker down' -- that is, to pull in like a turtle," Putnam writes.
In documenting that hunkering down, Putnam challenged the two dominant schools of thought on ethnic and racial diversity, the "contact" theory and the "conflict" theory. Under the contact theory, more time spent with those of other backgrounds leads to greater understanding and harmony between groups. Under the conflict theory, that proximity produces tension and discord.
Putnam's findings reject both theories. In more diverse communities, he says, there were neither great bonds formed across group lines nor heightened ethnic tensions, but a general civic malaise. And in perhaps the most surprising result of all, levels of trust were not only lower between groups in more diverse settings, but even among members of the same group.
"Diversity, at least in the short run," he writes, "seems to bring out the turtle in all of us."
The overall findings may be jarring during a time when it's become commonplace to sing the praises of diverse communities, but researchers in the field say they shouldn't be.” " READ MORE…

For those who aren't aware, Morehouse College is a prominent predominately and historically African American male college, and I have read several articles reporting the school's new president is going or has implemented a new dress code. Perhaps someone in the know can provide some enlightment. In the meanwhile, here is an excerpt from the school newspaper, "The Maroon Tiger," and an article from Dr. Jonathan L. Walton, Morehouse alumnus, with his position on the subject.
Opinions editor for the Atlanta, Georgia school’s newspaper writes:
“With the arrival of President Franklin, rumors have run rampant of a heavy-handed dress code. I have heard that the new football coach has required the players to cut off their dreadlocks and shave their faces. The new freshmen got not only new t-shirts this year, but also snazzy new blazers. There's talk of forcing chapel for all students as an actual class (this is in addition to Crown Forum). It’s talk of the return to the standards upheld in the Benjamin Mays days.
This talk seems dangerous to me. This talk ignores the question we should all ponder in our time here.
What is a Morehouse Man? Is he the kind of man that is acceptable to the white businessman? Is he the kind of man that everyone loves? Is he the kind of man that won't rattle the cages of the world? Is he docile? Is he submissive?” READ MORE…
Dr. Jonathan L. Walton, Assistant Professor of Religious Studies University of California, Riverside writes in an article on the subject:

Although I am someone who prefers suits, ties and wing tips over t-shirts, jeans and sneakers, I am ambivalent at best and frightened at worst about the latest news extending from my alma mater, Morehouse College.
Diverse Issues in Higher Education reports that Morehouse’s new president Robert Michael Franklin is requiring all incoming freshmen and subsequent freshmen classes to own and wear maroon blazers with the Morehouse insignia. While this act does not rise to the level of a dress code yet, reports are that Morehouse is considering following Paul Quinn College and the business school at Illinois State University in instituting strict restrictions on student’s attire. Morehouse has already prohibited sagging jeans, flip flops and the wearing of hats inside buildings.
According to Franklin, his decision stems from a desire to make being smart cool again while bringing morality back to the forefront of the college’s mission. His charge to freshmen was to “Look the part. Act the part. Talk the talk and walk the walk.”
But this begs the question: Is President Franklin accusing Morehouse of having an anti-intellectual culture? I thought Morehouse was supposed to be one of the premier institutions of higher education for black men in the country not “Lean On Me” high school. And since when did being smart have anything to do with being well-dressed? I spent almost a decade around some of the best minds in the Ivy League and few professors could be accused of sartorial splendor.
Moreover, call me crazy, but I didn’t realize that there was a correlation between morality and Brooks Brothers. Think about it, the Bush Administration includes some of the most nattily-attired folks in the country. Condeleeza know she be clean!!! Unfortunately, it is a “Look the part. Act the part,” morality that has this country under the leadership of a George W. in the first place. If anything, we have to teach our emerging leaders that there is a qualitative difference between respectability and morality.
To be clear, I support President Franklin’s ideals and visions. He is a brilliant scholar and I am so excited that he was appointed to the college’s presidency. I just question his application and the possible directions that certain cultural and institutional forces may be pushing him. (It is about time for Bill Cosby to cut another check!) There seems to be a reemergence among HBCU’s of Reconstruction-era race politics that has “educators” walking across college campuses checking for toothbrushes. But this is as wrong for institutions that want to compete at the highest academic level today, as it was when prescribed by the Tuskegee Wizard himself.
Simply put, a dress code within an institution of higher learning does little more than promote a culture of professional provincialism and pretentiousness. They extinguish individuality, compromise the life of the mind and stunt intellectual flourishing. The last I checked, dear ol’ Morehouse was better than that. And I know for a fact that Robert Franklin’s brilliance exceeds such a course of action.
So tell me, am I crazy? Am I just being a cultural, intellectual elitist? Or is my dear brother President Franklin on to something here? Let me know what you think...

"A Minnesota woman who sued Beyonce Knowles alleging the singer illegally used her lyrics on the hit song "Baby Boy" took her case to a federal appeals court Wednesday.
Jennifer Armour of Shakopee, Minn., claims Knowles, 26, took the lyrics from her song, "Got a Little Bit of Love for You." Her lawyer argued that the copyright infringement lawsuit -- dismissed by a Houston judge's summary judgment in favor of Knowles last year -- should be heard by a jury.
Knowles didn't attend the hearing before a three-judge panel from the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which was convening in Lubbock for three days of hearings.
Armour's attorney, Dana Kirk, told the judges that an expert analyzed Armour's slow and melodic version alongside Knowles' hip-hop song and that the two are substantially similar.
But Cynthia Arato, representing Knowles, said the standard for copyright cases is what an ordinary person hears, not an expert's analysis. The judge who heard the case in Houston last year had ruled the two songs were "substantially dissimilar."
Armour's lawsuit claims she heard Beyonce performing "Baby Boy" in 2003 "and recognized the hook and some of the lyrics from her song."
"I do believe it was the heart of my song," she said after Wednesday's hearing. "When I first heard it, it hit me.""

CBS News by way of AP reports:
“The Supreme Court wrestled Tuesday with how to give judges discretion to impose shorter prison terms, including for some crack cocaine crimes, without abandoning the long-standing national goal of similar punishments for similar crimes.
One case involved a crack cocaine dealer who received a 15-year term when the guidelines called for 19 to 22 years in prison.
The law includes what critics have called a 100-to-1 disparity: Trafficking in 5 grams of crack cocaine carries a mandatory five-year prison sentence, but it takes 500 grams of cocaine powder to warrant the same sentence.
That difference has made it a racial issue, reports CBS News correspondent Wyatt Andrews. Because most crack dealers are black, African Americans tend to think the law was written to put black men away…
Advocates for reducing the disparity point to crime statistics that show crack is more of an urban and minority drug while cocaine powder is used more often by the affluent. They say harsher penalties for crack cocaine unfairly punish blacks.
More than four-fifths of crack cocaine offenders in federal courts last year were black, according to the U.S. Sentencing Commission. By contrast, just over a quarter of those convicted of powder cocaine crimes last year were black, the commission said.” READ MORE & WATCH VIDEO

Actress and Turks and Caicos First Lady, Lisa-Raye McCoy-Misick along with singer Blu Cantrell appeared on Wendy Williams today to talk about a play they are both starring in called 'Gossip, Lies & Secrets.' The interview primarily focused on Lisa-Raye and Wendy seemed to have very little interest in Blu. Lisa-Raye talked about some of her duties as being First Lady, her daughter, Will & Jada Pinkett Smith and rumored tension, her recent celebrity birthday bash (she turned 40), rumors about her husband (Dr. Michael Misick, Prime Minister of Turks and Caicos) and her reputation with the people of the country, and her choice to “upgrade” in her selection of a man, and her socioeconomic status.
Wendy asked Blu Cantrell about previous rumors about hip-hop mogul Jay-Z. Every few minutes Blu would interject with yelling out the play’s name or, “Can we talk about the show?” LOL. Must suck when you don’t have a whole lot going on. Wendy was right. Lisa-Raye sucked the air out of the room. Seems like the whole room was in awe of her. The interview takes a dive when Wendy drags out the lesbian intern Christina to judge them. LOL. The crickets sound at the end when Blu mentions her cd is coming out and Wendy sounds like she’s having an ‘o’ at the end…after they exit, “yeah, yeah,” at this point she appears speechless…LOL
Tickets for the play can be found at Ticket Master.
TheaterSource describes the play plot as:
“From Angela Dunlap, writer of 'If These Hips Could Talk,' comes a new musical stageplay about sultry stories, seductive sirens and scandalous secrets. 'Gossip, Lies & Secrets' tells the tale of an author, an R&B super diva, and a soap opera star. They are bound by an unspoken commitment to be each others confidant and best friend. All is fine until the author gets her big break to write a novel. In sheer desperation, she makes a plot-twisting decision to save her career by breaking the sacred pact of her friends and divulge her best friends' innermost secrets. A Boston Herald article reported in a story by Laurel Sweet:
“A Washington, D.C., cabbie with a warped sense of humor hit the road on $1,500 cash bail yesterday after pleading not guilty to proclaiming himself a terrorist at Logan International Airport “here to blow things up.”
“He was joking with a ticket agent. Any statements he made were made in jest,” Ermiyas Asfaw’s attorney, Frank McHugh, explained to poker-faced Judge Paul Mahoney in the East Boston Division of Boston Municipal Court.
AirTran Airways, whose staff reported Asfaw, 27, to state police Saturday night when he tried to board a jet after announcing he was a member of al-Qaeda, wasn’t laughing, either.
“The airline’s employees have zero leeway when someone makes a statement that can be perceived as a threat,” AirTran spokesman David Hirschman told the Herald. “Federal law requires them to report it or they could lose their jobs.
“There’s no room for jokes or sarcasm at the ticket counter or the gate,” he said. “I would encourage people to not joke about bombs. Save it for the comedy club. This is the world we live in.”
For Logan, where the two jetliners that took down New York’s World Trade Center towers were hijacked by al-Qaeda henchmen on Sept. 11, 2001, this was the airport’s third major security threat since August.
Last month, 19-year-old MIT student Star Simpson showed up at Continental Airlines strapped to a lighted circuit board with a glob of Play-Doh in her hand. In August, John Megelich, a 53-year-old North Carolina businessman, attempted to board a Northwest Airlines flight with a loaded gun.
While checking in with AirTran, Asfaw, who had been in Boston visiting his girlfriend, was allegedly questioned about a Dubai sticker he had on his luggage. Asfaw said he was Ethiopian and spoke Arabic, but when the ticket agent said, “They don’t speak Arabic in Ethiopia,” Asfaw allegedly responded, “No, I speak it because I’m al- Qaeda. I’m part of them. I’m here to blow things up.””

The New York Times reports in a music review:
“Orchestras, which are often criticized for not offering more diverse programming, are less frequently called on to account for the lack of diversity within their ranks. But blacks and Latinos combined make up only about 4 percent of the musicians in American professional orchestras, according to the Sphinx Organization, a national nonprofit that works to increase minority participation in classical music.
Judging by the excellent performances of the young black and Latino musicians in the Sphinx Laureates concert on Tuesday at Carnegie Hall, presented by the JPMorgan Chase Foundation, the organization has every prospect of achieving its goal.
The audience showed its appreciation with thunderous applause before, after and sometimes during each work. The program began with a lively, polished presentation of the opening allegro from Bach’s Concerto for Three Violins in D (BWV 1064), with fine performances by a trio of teenagers: Clayton Penrose-Whitmore, Maia Cabeza and Robert Switala. She has a sound which consists of reggae, jazz, and Latin. In an article by Stan Smith, this sexy Jamaican judge, Carol Gonzalez has given up the bench to become a singer:
"What would make a successful judge in the Lower Judiciary in Jamaica and a doctoral student in the field of Public International Criminal Law at the University of the West Indies give up her judgeship to become a singer? Lost touch with reality, taken leave of her senses you say. Well, could it be that singing is her life's' passion?
Judge Carol Gonzalez began her professional singing career at age 17 yrs old, at The Sheraton Hotel' "Jonkanoo Lounge" nightclub, in Kingston, Jamaica. Her most popular hit is "Second Class" for renowned producer Donovan Germaine of Penthouse Records. In 1981 she migrated to New York City where famed Broadway figure Danny Holgate, coached Carol in voice development and stagecraft. She returned Jamaica where as a cabaret artist she played the Hotel/resort circuit and served as a Magistrate. A position she currently holds but plans to resign when she fully resumes her music career.
However Jamaican law compelled her to stall her music career while serving on the bench. Carol represented Jamaica at musical competitions like the Caribbean Broadcasting Union Song Competition and performed at Reggae Sunsplash. In the 1990's working with Buju Banton' producer Germaine and Peter Ashbourne she also had hit songs with "Spoilt by your love" and "Ocho Rios", these songs did very well in the United Kingdom.
As a wife, mother and successful judge why would she give up the prestige, security and status to pursue an uncertain career in music? She says "there is just no substituting the spiritual fulfillment of being a singer" hence the decision to return to her true passion, singing. Seeing herself as an international artist, Carol feels that as a singer "I bring love, truth and upliftment to my audiences, to lift the consciousness and the imagination of the audience out of their everyday world and troubles." Carol Gonzalez who considers herself "true" soprano, says in music she has found her true voice and has decided to return to it."

This is a glaring example of how everyone in a management position (because of work experience) is not cut out to be an effective, good leader. Here is an excerpt to Yahoo! Sports columnist Adrian Wojnarowski's editorial on the situation:
"Finally, the New York Knicks are collapsing under the lightweights of a Richie Rich owner, empty suit executives and the vicious spin doctors who have run roughshod over Madison Square Garden for too long.
Together, they created the culture that allowed Isiah Thomas to behave behind the scenes like his old college coach, Bob Knight. The jury in New York federal court must have sat there in stunned silence, listening to the testimony of these jokers who dragged Anucha Browne Sanders, the NBA and common decency through a back alley.
As the jury watched one Garden official after another trash a well-decorated, well-compensated employee, they could see for themselves what everyone understood about this dysfunctional, failed organization: Beyond its basketball futility, the Knicks organization is an out of control embarrassment that needs to be punched in the mouth.
These jurors did basketball, did the NBA, a public service." READ MORE...
After her U.S. Open disappointment, tennis player Serena Williams has picked herself up dusted off the letdown and is now playing in the Porsche Open in Germany. I was really surprised to see this article, because when she was in championship form, you would be lucky to find her in “smaller” tournaments. Venus is playing in another tournament also. Maybe they are serious again about playing in championship form, and realize the need to play more tournaments and practice more. You cannot win on talent alone. They are still my girls. This photo was taken during a media press conference in Germany. And when I say championship form, I mean being able to kick a top 10 player's a*& at any time of the day…LOL

Beautiful voice. Beautiful song. No complicated dance routine needed.
His new book is out today called “My Grandfather’s Son” and he and has been promoting it through various media outlets. He covers topics such as: his younger brother dying, being raised by his grandparents and his grandparent’s great impact on his life, his reason/need to speak publicly, growing up and dealing with segregation in the south, teaching himself algebra as a child, rules in his grandfather’s house and high expectations they had of him, growing up Catholic and entering the seminary, affirmative action, and his need to leave an accurate record of his life, and to help others. His grandfather taught him to value work, be respectful, and how to be a man. At 19 his grandfather kicked him out of the house. Whether you love him or hate him, his book would make a fantastic gift for kids in single parent households on to men who are not active in their kid(s) lives. It has been reported Justice Thomas received $1.5 million for the memoir.

I listened to his Rush Limbaugh interview on the radio today (his second interview post 60 Minutes), and after listening to him I was more motivated to purchase his book, so I purchased two copies (one for me and the other for my teenage nephew). I recorded the audio...it is a bit grainy, because it was on AM radio with halfway decent reception, but it is very audible. I must admit, back during his confirmation hearings, I concluded that I did not care much for him due to his positions on affirmative action, but I did not understand where he was coming from back then. They did everything to him except lock his testicles up in a Sentry safe and throw away the key. I will always respect him for his accomplishments.

I was thinking about taking a drive up to Vermont over the weekend. Where I live, I am positioned about 1 hour from Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Connecticut and Rhode Island are about 45 minutes away. There are blacks in Vermont, but very few. In fact, I think Whoopi Goldberg has a farm there. They do have an annual reggae festival where thousands of people visit from all over the country, and the last time I went to the festival is the time when I saw the most people of color.

This morning I received this email from the "Internal Revenue Service" informing me that I was due refund money. Immediately, I knew something was wrong...LOL, anyhow I went to the U.S. IRS website and found information on phishing and what to do when you get a refund email letter.
Criminal Knuckleheads are always trying to get something for free. Always trying to figure out how to get someone else's hard earned money without working for it. If they could just take all of that saavy and apply it to something productive, perhaps they can find a cure for AIDS or solve world hunger or find a way to dramatically decrease crime. Why can't they scam/trick diseases and viruses into self-destructing? There is honest money to be made in that. I would settle for anything that would improve living for mankind. They need to get a better life.

"Suspicious e-Mail/Phishing
Phishing (as in “fishing for information” and “hooking” victims) is a scam where Internet fraudsters send e-mail messages to trick unsuspecting victims into revealing personal and financial information that can be used to steal the victims’ identity. Current scams include phony e-mails which claim to come from the IRS and which lure the victims into the scam by telling them that they are due a tax refund.

How to Protect Yourself from Suspicious E-Mails or Phishing Schemes
You Can Help Shut Down Phishing Schemes
The good news is that you can help shut down these schemes and prevent others from being victimized. If you receive a suspicious e-mail that claims to come from the IRS, you can relay that e-mail to a new IRS mailbox, phishing@irs.gov. Follow instructions in the link below for sending the bogus e-mail to ensure that it retains critical elements found in the original e-mail. The IRS can use the information, URLs and links in the suspicious e-mails you send to trace the hosting Web site and alert authorities to help shut down the fraudulent sites. Unfortunately, due to the expected volume, the IRS will not be able to acknowledge receipt or respond to you.
