Post MTV Video Music Awards Report
I did not watch MTV video music awards show last night, but have been on a few blogs to read various viewer impressions and saw photos of the same old celebrities…nothing new. As usual, I read the same old blah, blah, you hear every year about every awards show on how boring it was and a complete waste of time. Yet, networks keep churning them out, advertisers continue to buy in, and the same people keep on watching.
The New York Times offered reviews, which were similar to other online reviews. They report on off camera activities: “Somehow, despite the profusion of cameras, viewers never saw the night’s most talked-about event: a rumored fight between Tommy Lee and Kid Rock, ex-husbands of Pamela Anderson, who was a presenter. The first televised reference came when Jamie Foxx arrived on the dais and asked who won. Near the end of the night, Diddy made a tongue-in-cheek plea: “We got to stop the violence in rock ’n’ roll.” And during a post-show segment, the MTV personality Sway Calloway said Kid Rock had started it: “He just walked up, from what I saw, and just decked him.”” Here is the Kid Rock fight video. The most interesting tidbit was this “D.A.N.C.E” video they report on (because I did not hear the other sites I visited report on it): “One of the nominees for video of the year was the simple but clever video for “D.A.N.C.E.,” by the French dance-music duo Justice. In the video, which was directed by the team known as Jonas & François, there’s just about no action aside from stylish mutations on animated t-shirts.
The track is an international club hit, but in America it remains an underground favorite, and it wasn’t exactly ubiquitous on MTV over the past year. In fact, it seems possible that more people saw the video on YouTube — where “D.A.N.C.E.” has more than three million hits — than on MTV.”
Out of curiosity I went to YouTube to see what the hoopla was about, and they are right, the video is simple-you or I could create it, but the song is pretty cool in a sense that it takes us back to the late 70s to mid 80s with the sound. The video also reminds me of how MTV used to be in its humble, bare bones beginnings when they used to play music videos 24/7. I love the sound. Take a watch. The "D.A.N.C.E." video is below.
