The film is called “Illegal Tender” and it opens today in theatres. Although the movie about family drama appeals to every, Tenley Woodman’s article in the Boston Herald notes:

“Singleton said the allure of “Illegal Tender” transcends skin color.
The drama features a predominately Latino cast, a rarity in most English-language films.

“I think they are making buffoonery comedies and sports movies,” said Singleton, who was the youngest director to be nominated for an Oscar when he was 24 for “Boyz in the Hood.” “There is nothing really being made (for people of color). I just feel that what needs to happen in the Latin community is a commercial movie that just happens to have a lot of Latinos in it, like we have done with African-Americans.”

The movie stars Wanda De Jesus (“CSI: Miami”) and Rick Gonzalez (“Old School”) a mother and son who try to avoid gangsters who killed her husband. Learn more about the movie READ MORE…
